Though I now live in the United States, in the past, I lived in Europe for 18 years. I love soccer (football, futbol, futbole, ...) and follow many of the great European and South American teams.
In our house, we do not hang pictures on the wall, but hang the banners and flags from our favorite teams.
Real Madrid and Barcelona in the hallway,My wife knows more players than I do (especially the good looking ones) and all six children have played or are playing "The Beautiful Game". We only watch soccer (futbol) on TV, subscribing to both cable and satelitte in order to get as many channels as possible. We truely are a very interntional soccer family.
But why a blog on Benfica, and not a blog on some other super club?
For this answer, I must blame my neighbor. He is from Portugal, played professional futbole, and loves good wine. His brother arrived two years ago, also after a professional futbole career- which began at age 14 with Benfica Youth Academy and finished 20 years later as a director of the youth academy for a top Portugese club.
Now we have good times discussing futbole - the fans, the politics, the players, the games, what could have been, what might be ... and of course, while sipping great Portugese wine.
This blog is to discuss Benfica and to share some of our good times (except for the wine) with OleOle members.
