Mexico has lived these last few years divided between those how support the national team and those who don´t. The discussions created when La Volpe was named the team´s trainer for the world cup
qualify and then for the finals, reached some of the country´s main characters.
After a good World Cup (they lost in 1/8 finals to Argentina by 2 to 1) La Volpe says goodbye to the national team.
And everything led to believe that Hugo Sanchez would take over the team. And that's what happened. Sanchez gives offensive and open game, but very fast, just like Hugo did. We'll see if that
players are able to put it in practice on the field.
Now mexicans, under Hugo Sanchez's wing, are unites. But they await results.
Meantime the results are not being excelent: they won against Cuba and lost to Honduras.
The aproval is still pending.
Funny how betto talks about the economy of Mexico in correlation with soccer results and education. You have Brazil and Argentina developing great players and great teams and look at their economies. As a Mexican, I do feel the same way, US is now the superpower, demonstrating that poor teams are easy to defeat (as an example, the Gold Cup). The problem lies in the Mexican Soccer Federation. USA will be at Argentina's level pretty soon, take to account that they will do it as a collaborative effort, as a team, and not with individual members, like those that Argentina and Brazil have shining. Go USA (i live there), vamos Mexico (I was born there).
I agree with forzafutbol, Hugo is walking on thin ice, although I like him.
I never meant to hurt the mexican people.
Its their goverment who takes advantage.
Tthey don't want to educate their people because they will open their eyes and see the whole picture completely different.
How can you explain the progress in Canada more then Mexico?
Argentina and Brazil have individual talent and plenty.
They always did and will.
Their progress in life is also individual. Like Novel prizes, arts, sports, et cetera.
Bottom line Mexico leaders are not good mentors of their own people in any aspect.
America incorporates Englis football as part of their school program and we'll see the fruits 1 day.
Argentina and BRAZIL are just amazingly talent and in their culture there's a pride in what they are or do (I'm talking middle class, which they still have some)
I went to the ingeniering University in Bs As and lived down there about 11 years.
I think Betto is an idiot. Yes he is right that Mexico has an economic problem. But what does any of that have to to do with soccer. Futbol is futbol, football is football, and economics are economics. Neither have nothing to do with each other. Educating the mexican people isnt going to make them better soccer players. Mexico has talent. If you didnt see the World Cup, because obviously you didnt, mexico did really well and put up an amazing show against Argentina. I honestly thought that Mexico could have passed to the next level. Argentina pulled it off though. So get a life and stop trying to sound like you know what your talking about.
Well, if I'm an idiot to you because I lived in Europe, Southamerica, at the age of 15th I was a profetional athlete ranked in the sport of Tennis. I also have a degree in Ingeniering (grama is not my strengh-as you can see)
My father was a prof. footballer and my brother in law plays in the English league. Anyway I won't insult you James. My point is very simple: Economics, cultural and educational issues are involve in football. Mexico and many other countries ( Central America, Africa, South Asia ) don't have the right structure, history and talent to go and pass their social struggles.
There're few agains't the rule but overall I believe is a complex problem created by their goverments.
Like is said: "Denle pan y circo no libros"
Give them bread and circus no books"
Insulting people doesn't give you the right to say:
You are educated and have a life.
Books, languages, travel.
HAHA Betto you make me laugh! Its obvious you have something against Mexico, must be the sudaka in you. You talk a lot but dont show facts or figures. Lets go by parts: Mexico and soccer - We might not be in the same level as Brazil and Argentina but we are without a doubt the THIRD BEST TEAM IN AMERICA! Two steps behind Brazil, one behind Argentina. Figures? Since being invited to Copa America 16 years ago, Mexico has reached 2 FINALS and 2 THIRD PLACE'S. And this is playing in South America. We havent won Copa America yet in part due to CONMEBOLS PREFERENCE OF HAVING CONMEBOL TEAMS WINNING THEIR TOURNAMENT. COPA AMERICA COLOMBIA 2001 IS A CLEAR EXAMPLE.
Copa Libertadores is another clear example of the high level of soccer being practiced in Mexico. Mexican clubs every year reach if not semis, at least quaterfinals. Club Guadalajara, an all Mexican-player club eliminated boca jrs. and velez in the last two editions. I can easily say Mexico can play any Argentinian club or national team mano a mano. We are if not in the same level as Argentina, at least one step behind. In the past World Cup Mexico played magnificent against Argentina, we surely gave them a shit shock, we even took the game to overtime!! No que muy bueno argentino??? In 2005 in the confederation cup Mexico took Argetino to PENALTIES for a place in the final. 2004 Mexico DEFEATED argentina in Copa America Peru 2004.
Its obvious in the past few years Argentina has not been able to defeat Mexico in 90 minutes, but yet Mexico's "football is very poor" according to betto :D :D
Mexico and politics: No discussion here: Mexico is the GIANT IN LATIN AMERICA. Well, Mexico and Brasil. If viewed through the U.S. or Western Europe's eyes, of course many come to the conclusion that Mexico is in trouble, but that in itself is deceiving. Mexico compared to Latin America is YEARS AHEAD!!! Which in part explains why so many argentinians migrate to Mexico! It really suprises me to hear people say Mexicans are not educated, especially if coming from somebody who lived in argentina. Mexico is amongst the top economies in the world and as such needs not only a strong labor force but also a well educated one, I truly doubt the Mexican government wants to deny education to its people.
Can anybody name the top university in Latin America?
Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico (UNAM)
5 TOP DEVELOPING COUNTRIES IN THE WORLD?
South Africa, China, India, Brasil and WHO? MEXICO
SEARCH FOR THE G8 PLUS 5!
Argentina might have been big in the past, but seem to struggle now days. CHILE is much better than argentina, even Uruguay. Mexico and Brasil way ahead!!!! Really cant understand why argentinians cant accept this reality
Hey David!
USA 2- Mexico 1
How many Nobels Mexico has?
0
America cup?
0
Argentina 26
Brazil 11
Please do me a favor; if your country is so great... why everybody is crossing into the USA?
Open your eyes buddy!
You must be joking.
A lot of Brazilian players grow up in miserable conditions and look at their team. Economics has nothing to do with it. One of the problems is that the mexican league imports too many foreign players instead of giving mexican players a chance to improve. And another problem is that the few mexican players that are talented enough to go play in Europe almost never take that chance because they're paid well in Mexico. Your point sounds more ignorant than the people you claim are ignorant. Have you noticed how amazingly uneducated some American athletes are but are amazing players? I bet you haven't.
I can't believe that people still think that Mexico is anywhere near Argentina or Brasil. There not even the best team in the CONCACAF.All in part to fact that they don't have many players in Europe. In contrast the U.S not Mexico is creaping up on Brasil and Argentina.
While the U.S. is a good team, Mexico still has better talent. Mexico's losses to the U.S. have been caused by psychological hurdles rather than physical ones. Mexico is a good team that could not find their rhythm during the gold cup and the U.S. will be considered the best team in CONCACAF when they consistently beat Mexico in Mexican territory and no, while Mexico always plays very well against Argentina, they are not close to having the talent that Argentina produces.
Please people, Mexico has not won anything at any international level outside of the Copa de Oro. And that is the CONCACAF which is full of countries who play more baseball (Central and Carribean), and Ice Hockey (Canada) than soccer.
Take them out of the Azteca Stadium (altitude advantage) and they compete but never win. They have young talent, a wonderful fan base but they have to win first and then try and throw their weight around. They’ve had 2 World Cups on their soil and could not get out of the 2nd round.
Hugo Sanchez gauranteed a win in Copa Oro, a team of gladiators he said. And then no stopping until the World Cup. Well, win quietly first and then be loud and boisterous. Now he just look like a bombastic, blow hard, sore loser.
Mexico is behind Columbia, Peru, Paraguay and Chile. Nowhere near Brasil, Argentina and Uruguay. Gotta walk first then run and then maybe...fly!
Really nice goals. I must say I'm impressed but let's not get excited just yet. Just ask Ecuador; Chile came back and beat them when I thought that Ecuador had that game in the bag. A couple of surprises on the Mexican side with JC Cacho and with Ochoa.
Well according to the Mexican media, there is a division in the dressing room. The Lavolpistas - Euro based players and the Mexican league players led by Jared and Oswaldo. Looks like they have brought some harmony and peace in the Copa America. I guess it helps that Pardo, Osorio and Salcido have gone on vacation.
What???? Mexico is behind Colombia, Peru, Paraguay and Chile?!?!?!?!?!? Im sorry but I wont accept this until I see some facts or figures. Last time I checked, none of these 4 mentioned teams has won A WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP IN ANY AGE LEVEL!!!!!! MEXICO WON THE U17 WC IN 2005 IN PERU. That itself puts us ahead of these 4 teams.
Second, has any of these teams reached the Copa America final in the last years 20 years, i dont think so. Colombia but that was because they were hosting, they choke every year. Mexico has played two finals Ecuador 93 and Colombia 01, and gotten two semis in 97 and 99, and all of this playing IN SOUTH AMERICA, not in Estadio Azteca! We night not be in the same level as Brazil or Argentina but in the last few years the two teams have stuggled with Mexico, especially Brasil, who has lost 5 of the last 8 games played against Mexico, and only won one.
Its time Southamericans accept that Mexico is the third best team in the continent! We dont have one of the best soccer leagues in America for nothing.
you can't judge a country by any sport...these teams represent their country in their respected sport only, football or soccer in the US, but they don't represent politics, economics, education, nor world status, just strictly futbol...!!
If that was the case, then think about the NBA, NFL, and MLB...drugs, criminal conduct, steroids, domestic violence, you name it, we got it in the USA. I was born and bred in the US but my parents are Mexican and I love both countries and cultures as my own. I am proud of it and I am torn between teams whenever they play each other. I don't judge an entire nation based on the performance of their futbol team. Let's stick strictly to the game...
Heckling can be fun so Betto, this is for you ( ) )//////////D
mexico just bet brazil what do think about the the mexico 2 brazil 0 is mexico better the brazil just look the score and mexico will do it again
It's funny to read that people think so highly of Mexico when their not even the CONCACAF champions, and the U.S. has won the last two Gold Cups. When Mexico Manager Sanchez decides to play the best
players instead of Blanco,or Borgetti and Mexicans go overseas to play tougher competion then and only then can they even be considered equal to the U.S. That's what I hope happens because I'm
Mexican but raised in the U.S.
It's funny when people think so highly of the U.S. when their "European" players spent a lot of time warming the bench. And everybody knows that the U.S. spends a lot of time overseas playing tough
competition!!
i think everyone needs to put theyre hatred beside and think futbol for a second. "argentina was good in the past" "mexico is better than argentina" bla blaa bla bullshit. mexico is not and has never
been at the same level as argentina. we proved it in your own world cup and we proved it again at the world cup. mexico has a big psychological effect over both argentina and brazil, always giving us
and them a hard time, but they cant beat anyone else. USA is better than mexico without a doubt, even though the US futbol is shit. mexico CAN NOT beat any other team besides argentina or brazil. BUT
when it comes to important matches (such as world cup matches or copa americas) who comes out on top? ARGENTINA or BRAZIL. PERIOD. the best teams in america. colombia is the third in my opinion,
while brazil and argentina are tied at first.
hahaha, "when it comes to important matches (such as world cup matches or copa americas) who comes out on top? ARGENTINA or BRAZIL." WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME argentina WON A WORLD CUP??? 21 YEARS AGO,
THEY HAVENT EVEN REACHED A FINAL RECENTLY. WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME ARGENTINA WON A COPA AMERICA? LIKE 15 YEARS AGO!!! ARGENTINA HAS DONE NOTHING IN THE LAST 18 YEARS, AND IF YOU'RE CONSIDERED A
POWERHOUSE LIKE ARGENTINA IS, THIS MEANS 18 YEARS OF FAILURES. EXPLAIN THAT. BRAZIL WILL ALWAYS BE THE TOP TEAM IN AMERICA!!!! ARGETINA AND BRAZIL ON TOP??? NO, ONLY BRAZIL!!!
I really don care what you all say about mexico and the national team all i know is that mexico beat 2-0 brasil and USA was defeated by argentina 4-1 i guess 20 days of practicing together wont make
you the best team ever but beating brazil hey i think mexico deserveds great respect and you cant say they were just lucky shots so if you got to say something about mexico you can kiss my mexican
ass by the way since 1999 brazil has only beat mexico once
Hey Gerardo! Or I should say Chicano! Mexico has more money then Arg. and Bra. because USA is their neighrbor and use their people for labor. And with that money they buy Argies and other players to
come and teach mexican aztecas how to treat a ball. Argentina's Boca Junior has beaten Brazil's Gremio to win the Libertadores in both matches and country's grounds. I agree with those who think that
Arg. and Bra. are the only 2 countries with tradition, history and trophies to compete with Europe. Mexico? Please! USA already past them. Just keep working for the American in their fields and
factories and shut up. But please; pay some taxes! Or ask your goverment to share your riches if you have any. Therefore you don't need to cross the border.
Argentina struggled with Mexico?! Were we watching the same game? Although there wasn't a dominance or the tranquility of having the game in hand, to go as far as saying they struggled with Mexico is
ludicrous. Argentina won that in the extra time, and had a disallowed goal right at the end of regulation that I still can't see the infraction. But I only have a TV feed and wasn't in Ger. Either
way, in the extra time Argentina controlled the tempo, scored a magnificent goal and won the game without needing PKs. You point out that Mexico won the U-17 in 2005. Bravo. Argentina has won the
last 2 U-20 and has won 5 in total (the most) since 1979. They also won the Olympic gold medal in 2004. Boca Jrs has won the Libertadores 4 times since 2000, an Argentine team has won that 21 times.
Also the most by any country's team. And in 2004 we came up short on PKs in CA final. Where was Mexico?

I really like Hugo Sanchez. I like the fact that he is playing alot of the experienced players with the young, up and comers. But the problem against Honduras was two fold. First Hugo put a very defensive team on the pitch. Where was Borghetti, Neri Castillo, Kikin? And then Cuahtemoc Blanco let his emotions get to him. Who cares if the Honduran defender was blowing kisses to him thoughout the first half, you don't elbow him in the penalty area. I also thought Costly from Honduras who plays in the Polish league was very good. Mexico needs to come out strong and beat Panama (a very good team, in my opinion) or Hugo will be gone.
Mexico stinks.
Never was a great team and its history in football is very poor.
USA will pass them very soon.
America has only 2 teams at the moment:
Argentina & Brazil, everybody else are average.
But Mexico is less then that. Located next to USA and with money (more then that Southamericans) yet no results.
They don't have it in theirselves. No talent.
can you imaging Argentina or Brazil sharing board with USA/
Who would stop them?
It's a cultural problem. Unless their goverment educate their people first... nothing will change.
The song remains the same.
