Eto'o, Brute?

Wednesday, 11 June 08, 07:45 AM ยท Posted by HarryHotspur

In my capacity as Chief Football correspondent and Junior Vice President of Compu-Global-Hyper-Mega-Net I had announced earlier in this selling silly season that Samuel Eto'o had been spotted at The Lane. I am now to conclude that tale for you.

He's laughed us off.

He dropped the bombshell speaking yesterday candidly on Cameroonian telly "Tottenham, and the British club will have to forgive me for saying this, are mid-table and I need more"

I would ordinarily greet such and similar pronouncements with a swift and snarly 'Well sod you too, son!" But this fair enough comment from King Of The Kickaballs.  We as fans are in the same boat. We want more too.

Eto'o went on to say that there had been a lack of running at Barca over the past two seasons, and effectively the showboating over effort had cost them as a result (sound familiar, anyone?). Clearly he means it or WHL would have been an obvious move.

God knows what Ronaldinho will say of City... Or will Taksin's lolly prove more powerful than league placings?

Can't say im too disappointed, id much rather Villa. Equally unlikely, but hey, im a spurs fan. I'll allow myself the luxury of a dream or two.

We're bottom half of the table. Fair comment by the guy. He can do a lot better. After next season though, we will be in a position to offer this kind of player the chalenge they want. Even if we finish 5th or 6th, they will be coming to us knowing that we are very much capable of moving up. Just a case of slowly slowly catchy monkey I'm afraid.

Would've of been a great signing, but never really believed I'd see Eto'o in lilly white. The shit form from most of the team after the Carling Cup didn't help attracting top players either. Until we're an established top 4 outfit, I think we'll struggle to sign the likes of Eto'o and Villa.

Shaney_t I hear you... If Levy can secure the services (hack speak) of Villa, I'm sending him flowers!

Or maybe we didn't want to pay him 120k per week in which case I'd say well done Danny and the Dame.

Several days have gone by and still no sign of 9.37 anon. Harry have you informed the police ? Maybe we could organise a search party ?

a big fat victory ham to anyone who can convince David Villa to adorn, embellish or indeed, decorate himself with a lilly white shirt next season.

He should have said that a couple a months ago, would've saved a whole rain forest, might have put one or two so called journalists out of work too.

Compu-Global-Hyper-Mega?

Sounds very Hitchhikers Guide-esque to me!

It always looked so unlikely for Eto'o to come on over. I'd be quite content with Sergio Garcia (or whatever his name is). A world class striker would be a luxury that we don't really need provided we get a world class midfield sorted out first.

Also...hat-trick Mr Villa and money in the bank!

Im thinking Sergio Garcia would be the most likely? Though I did hear mumbles from a few spanish channels that Barca and Pep Guardiola are more than a bit interested...

Ok, I've taken it upon me to marry the realms of fancy and conjecture to come up with a quite trific starting line up for next season.

Viviano

Hutton King Woodgate Bale

Veloso

Sergio Garcia Capel

Modric

Dos Santos
Milito

whiteythompson, If my memory serves me Compu-Global-Hyper-Mega-Net was the name Homer simpson called his internet startup company. I guess this is some sort of metaphor for Harry's rise to Ole Ole. Richt geek bit over.

I reckon Eto'o has a right to his opinion but I reckon he should have kept it to himself. Let's look at it from the other way. What if Spurs were to blab to the media that we thought he was not that good and only made to look good by his teammates in Catalonia? Not sure he would be impressed and liabel talk would no doubt ensue. Perhaps he needs to wind his neck in.

However I still love the goal he scored in the champions league final. Despite all the bottles that got lobbed at me for celebrating it!?

Eto'o has always been this way inclined. He's made provocative comments before and will continue to do so. At least he apologised for calling us a mid table team!

on Eto'o take ,Can't say I'm surprised really. Even if he did look at the two seasons before last what would he see? Two 5th place finishes? No Champions League football, which a player of his profile will always look for. At the minute, we aren't a big enough draw for the very top players in world football. I consider Modric
and Dos Santos as the next step down on the ladder, they have the potential to be world class, but aren't quite there yet. We are
going in the right direction, but we really
need the Champions League to attract the best players, still do not believe we will get
VILLA!!.

What about all this journo BULL SHIT which is doing rounds,.My problem with Chimbo is the times when he decided he couldn't be arsed.
He's like your mate who never runs back when
you play 5-aside. He'll be right on your shoulder when you're attacking demanding the ball before spectacularly fuck it up (your mate's never as good as he thinks he is) and then while you're all killing yourself to get goal side he'll be chucking his arms in the air and pretending he was unlucky or fouled or something before strolling back. Then in the changing room he'll be mouthing off about did you see what he did? Or wasn't that amazing
goal he scored, while everyone else is thinking yeah, whatever... he just like his agent "Japanese BANKER!!!!!

yeah agreed we are a mid table team according to the table, but that doesn't tell the whole story when it comes to transfers. When a player looks at moving he surely must look at the club's potential. To sign for a club purely on what they did last season would be stupid. If that happened no club would ever get any better. In Eto'o's case he is at one of the top clubs and wants to leave. Everything is a step down. If he doesn't want a challenge then fuck off to Qatar or something

He just wants to play Champions League. It's fair enough really, players are motivated by different things... some by prestige and glory others by pound signs. Which is why we might just see Rolnaldinho signing for Citeh.

Nice new format, Harry. Thanks to those concerned re my absence. One day, like a fool, I went into my back garden and, owing to the fact my grass hasn't received a proper cut for about 18 months, I couldn't find my way out.

Surviving on Premium Mix, I emerged several days later and immediately threw myself into trying to lure Steve McLaren to the vacant Head Coach role at Chel*ea, as I believe that club is deserving of his skills. I have to confess I've so far been unsuccessful but, if we all hold cyber-hands and collectively will it, I'm confident it can come to pass.

I decided sentimentally to retain my moniker, although in written format. 9.37 represents the time of my first ever post on Harry's blog. By a strange coincidence, it also represents the time every day when I empty my bowels, regular as clockwork.

Problem is, I don't get out of bed till 10.00.

Badum-tish.
