Adding Favourite Blogs to your Homepage (new feature)

Friday, 16 May 08, 04:36 AM

Hello everyone,

OleOle's new integrated blogging system gives everyone the opportunity to write and comment about their favourite team or become a reporter and commentator for the sport you love. And you can choose to do it in any of the 10 languages available on the platform.

You can also ADD A FAVOURITE blog to your home so you can read the latest post without searching for it. It's also good if you're in a heated debate and you want to make sure you make your point as soon as you notice someone posts a comment.

Adding a Favourite Blog is very easy. If you are already reading a certain blog that you like very much and want to add it to your homepage all you have to do is click on the ADD TO FAVOURITE orange button located on the right top side of that blog page.

But if you prefer you can also browse for blogs from your homepage and Search by Topic to find the blog that you want to ADD AS FAVOURITE.

And why not create your own blog too?

Go ahead and defend the colours of your passion!

Your Favourite Teams and Players On Your Home Page

Friday, 09 May 08, 05:28 AM

Hello footie fans,

We hope you are having a fun time experiencing the new OleOle platform.

One of the improvements we made thinking of the most fanatical supporters was the possibility of having your favourite teams and players right on your home page.

And it's as easy as pie to do it.

Let's see how a fan could add his team's WIDGET to his page.

1) Click on the Clubs link using the BROWSE & FIND on the menu.

2) Once there, SEARCH for you favourite club (if you don't see its crest on the right side of the page) by typing in a few letters, select, then click Go!

3) When you get to your favourite team page just click on the big orange button to ADD AS FAVORITE. And you're done!

You can now go back to your homepage and you will see your Favourite Team WIDGET there for you. The WIDGET does not only have your team crest but also updated info about your team last and next fixtures, the position on the table and you will also be able to see videos, photos, throw-ins and forums related to your team.

The same works for your favourite players. Once you go to their page and click on the ADD AS FAVORITE button that player added to your Favourite Player WIDGET on your home page.

But let's suppose a certain player betrays the honour of your club and sign with your biggest rival. If you want to delete him from your favourites you can do it from your page by clicking on the X button on the Favourite Player WIDGET.

And remember, you choose what you want others to see on your page and how you want the page to look.

Move the columns and tables around to give your home page a unique and customised look!

~Cheers~

The importance of the TOPICS

Tuesday, 06 May 08, 07:38 AM

Hello Football Fanatics!

I hope you are enjoying the new OleOle. You are now part of the next generation of football platform on the internet.

There are a lot of new features and we'll explain all of them over the next few weeks - today, its TOPICS

Now when you submit any CONTENT to OleOle - blog posts, throw-ins, photos, videos, etc - you will be asked to select TOPICS (not tags) for that specific content.

But, what is the difference between TOPICS and tags?

A tag is user generated. It doesn't build a structure or help others find information because it varies according to individual preferences.

TOPICS are the core of the new OleOle platform. The TOPICS represent every LEAGUE, CLUB, NATIONAL TEAM or PLAYER in the world. And remember, on the new OleOle platform we have more than 5,500 teams and more than 55,000 players in 300 leagues and all of that in 10 languages! That's a lot to keep track of.

When you submit any content to the site (blog posts, videos, photos, throw-ins, etc) you will be asked to select between one and 10 TOPICS that will link your content to other areas of the site.

For example:

If you add a photo of Ronaldinho you can add topics like: Ronaldinho - Barcelona - La Liga - Brazil

Then if you visit Ronaldinho's player section you will see that the picture you uploaded automatically appears in the photo session of the page. TOPICS put it there!

You can also SEARCH BY TOPICS to find all Ronaldinho's related content.

From OleOle's home page choose the content you want to search for from the CHANNELS tab.

You see then a box on your left with the most POPULAR TOPICS or you can type the desired TOPIC and you'll get the results related to that term.

That's the power in choosing the right TOPICS.

If you think there is a TOPIC that is still not on our database, Create a New Topic. This won't go into the site immediately, it will be sent to us as a suggestion and our football geniuses will evaluate it to see if that word can be transformed into a new TOPIC.

Stay tuned for more!

~Cheers~

Customisable Pages

Thursday, 01 May 08, 04:56 AM

Hello everybody,

The next generation football platform is up and running well. Of course we are still working very hard to improve every single detail but you can already enjoy some new fantastic features.

In the next few weeks we’ll blog about the lastest and greatest features and functions and how to use them.

First, we’ve got an online first:

YOU have the power to create, edit, modify, be in charge of letting everyone know that you are an expert when it comes to your favourite team or footballer.

And you can do that in your own language. There are ten languages available on our new site: English, Spanish, French, Portuguese, Italian, German, Russian, Japanese, Korean and Chinese.

HOW TO CUSTOMISE YOUR FAVOURITE TEAM or PLAYER PAGE:

*Once you are at the OleOle home page you can go to the BROWSE & FIND tab and click on the CLUBS, PLAYERS or NATIONAL TEAMS link.

*Let’s go to WAYNE ROONEY’s page as an example.

*The link will take you to the player section main page and some of them will be shown on the right side of the page

http://www.oleole.com/search/players

*But if your favourite’s photo is not there it’s very simple to find him

*Go to the SEARCH BY TOPIC and start writing his name. OleOle will help you find him.

*If you still can’t find that footballer you can BROWSE by REGION, LEAGUES, CLUBS, etc…

*When you get to ROONEY’s page you will see a big orange box to add Rooney’s as your favourite. Do it.

*But unlike any other football side, here at OleOle you can do much more than that. How about adding some widgets to Rooney’s page so it will look the way you think it should look.

*On the left side of the page you will see a WIDGET DOCK with icons that represent the stuff that you can add to Rooney’s page.

*After you add all the fun stuff to his page you will be able to move those tables around and give the page the look and feel that you want.

You can also change the banner, the background colours… customise the page the way it fits your taste. Only OleOle gives you this power!

We will also assign page DIRECTORS in the future. Page Directors will have the privilege to control the look, the fell and the content of the page. To increase your chances to become a Page Director keep visiting your favourites’ pages, help maintain the widgets, start a blog, submit Throw-ins and prove you’re the biggest fan.

And there’s more to come…

~Cheers~

Are YOU ready for the new OleOle?

Wednesday, 23 April 08, 09:56 AM

One Week To Go

Fed up with all the same “football news” sites that print the same articles and the same pictures? Tired of boring, “unbiased” news from neutral reporters who can’t pick sides? Then you’re ready for the very biased opinions, the rivalries, the passionate discussions, and the heated debates on the new OleOle.

We have worked (without a half-time break!) to build the revolutionary OleOle football platform, and are putting you and other passionate fans in control.

You decide what’s good, and what’s bad. You help manage the information, the layout, the look and feel of each section of the site. You get to write blogs, submit your favourite photos, upload the best football videos, and can rate and comment on yours - and everyone else’s!

So make sure you are warmed-up and ready for the big kick-off! And don’t forget to pass the ball and tell your friends.

Get ready to get in the game!

OleOle Kick-off – 2 weeks to go

Thursday, 17 April 08, 09:50 AM

2 Weeks To Go!

Thanks for creating a profile and becoming a football fan on OleOle - you probably didn’t know it but you’ve helped to shape the future of football on the Internet.

OleOle has been very busy for the past year architecting and building the world’s largest and most interactive football platform – by fans, for fans.  We couldn’t have done it without you – and we want to sincerely thank you for your help, feedback and use of the Beta site!

OleOle will be taking the “Beta” badge off the site in about two weeks, and when the kick-off comes, you will be one of the first to experience this ground-breaking football community.

The new platform will enable you to control just about everything about your favourite teams and players, and takes your profile page to new levels of personalization.  And there is so much more – we’ll keep you posted.

But, until then…lace up your boots, put on your favourite jersey, tell you mates, and…

Keep the ball rolling!

Good old new stuff!

Friday, 22 February 08, 21:59 PM

Hi everyone!

We've been busy as usual, building THE place on the web for football fans. What do you do when you've already got a great place? Make it better of course! We've enhanced a few of our existing features, all ready for the weekend.

1 ) First up we have "Throw-Ins", you've probably seen it on the site, but have never really gotten into it. What is a Throw-in anyway? Rather than just give you RSS feeds, we want YOU the football fans, to tell everyone what's worthy of looking at and what's not. If you feel you've seen or read something interesting on the web, this is your chance to share it with the rest of the OleOle community.Throw-Ins are now featured on the Home page, and the RSS feeds have been given a red card!

As you can see from the image above, we've categorized Throw-ins into four media types:

  • Articles - news reports, blogs, or any other written commentary
  • Photos - drawings, photographs, or any kind of image
  • Videos - cool clips of football tricks, game highlights, or anything football
  • Podcasts - fun commentary and banter, Internet style!

Select the type of content you want share, and click "Continue" to submit the URL. On the next page, you'll get to enter additional details on the Throw-In. In most cases, our system will automatically get the title of article! As seen below, If you're submitting a video or photo, you'll also get the chance to select a thumbnail image to represent your Throw-In.

Once you've submitted your Throw-In, it will appear on the "Recent" Throw-Ins list. There's a little score board, which shows the total number of votes the Throw-in has received. Vote up your favorite Throw-Ins and vote down the ones you dislike. Remember, you can only vote for each Throw-In once! The more votes a Throw-In has, the higher up it is on the Popular list!

You can also share interesting Throw-Ins with friends who aren't on OleOle, simply use the "Email This" feature on each Throw-In. We also encourage everyone to share their comments on a Throw-In. Hot topics always spark of great discussions!

2) Next up, we have an improvement to our video upload system. You can now opt to have our system automatically choose a thumbnail for your video, and make it LIVE on the site! No more waiting around. Just upload it, and forget it! You can of course edit the options of your upload video at any time from your My Videos page. As shown below, we have made this the default option on your file selection page ( why would you want to turn it off anyway?)

Thanks for reading, and stay tuned for the next batch of updates and improvements from the team here at OleOle!

New Year! New Features!

Wednesday, 16 January 08, 22:33 PM

Happy New Year everyone! By Pelé's golden jersey - it's been a while since our last major update!

We've been hard at work, and are proud to announce the release of some cool new features. You bloggers and video junkies will especially like these:

Blog Customization

1) Top of the list is our blog theme customization and management interface. This awesome new feature can be found on My Blogs -> Settings & Layout -> Manage Themes. From here, you can select from our large and ever increasing range of pre-designed blog templates. Most importantly, you have total control over how you want your blog to look.

By clicking "Customize Theme" you will have access to the stylesheet and templates for your blog and blog posts. How cool is that? Be sure to read the associated Help file for more information on how to use the stylesheet and template editor.

Blog Widgets

2) Blogs now have widgets (little informative sections on your blog like "About Me" and "My Friends"), which you can drag and drop to easily change the look of your blog. You can even hide widgets you don't want, or choose who you'd like to see them. Sweeet!

New Video Player

3) We've polished up our video player to give you sharp new interface - it's now easier than ever to share, embed and watch your favourite football videos.

Revamped Live Scores Page

4) Our Live Scores page has been revamped to be even more user friendly than ever. Navigate quickly and easily to your desired team or league.

User Voting on Content

5) On the Throw-Ins page, you'll notice a new streamlined look and feel to the voting interface for submitted stories. In addition to this, we have also rolled out the same type of user voting on all kinds of other content as well, including Photos, Videos, Blog posts, and even comments on blog posts, videos etc.

This gives you, the fans, lots of opportunity to make your voice heard by voting up (or down) any kind of content on the site that you find good (or maybe not so good...).

Keep Me Logged In

6) Last and not least is one of our personal favourites - the "Keep me logged in" feature! This option is available on all login areas. Once selected, you will always be logged in to OleOle, even after you close your web browser. If you want to prevent your browser from keeping you logged in (e.g. a good idea if you are using a public terminal such as at an Internet cafe), just click the "Log Out" link in the top right of every page.

Stay tuned for some images and demo videos of these great new features, as well as lots more good stuff to come from your faithful team here at OleOle!
