Champions League Final - Manchester United vs. Chelsea - Football Globalization in its Best Level

Monday, 19 May 08, 07:59 PM

The stage in Moscow is ready to host the Champions League final match and by now so are the main attractions - Chelsea and Manchester United.

The first two British teams meet in the final. The same two teams that fought for the Premier League title this season and definitely two of the most "international"squads in the world today.

*************************

Chelsea's squad brings together players from 14 different nationalities and with a Russian owner The Blues might as well add a 15th fan nation to support them. The ruski.

On their list of main foreign players Chelsea has:

  • Peter Cech (Czech Republic)
  • Makelele, Malouda and Anelka (France)
  • Ricardo Carvalho (Portugal)
  • Drogba and Kalou (Ivory Coast)
  • Essien (Ghana)
  • Ballack (Germany)
  • Beletti and Alex (Brazil)
  • Schevchenko (Ukraine)

**************************

Manchester United's list of "internationals" is not too far behind. The Red Devils have 13 different nationalities on their squad and with the success in this season's EPL, ManU arrives in Moscow with the "favourites" badge.

Besides that the team has probably the most popular European footballer at this moment. Cristiano Ronaldo is at the top of his game and filled with desire to crown his amazing season with the most important club title of the continent.

Ryan Giggs is another player on the ManU squad that has an extra reason to celebrate in case his team wins the Champions League. It will be his 759th appearance wearing the red shirt of United. He will then beat Sir Bobby Charlton record.

Along with the Portuguese star, Ronaldo, and the Wales born Ryan Giggs, other international players are crucial for ManU's title ambitions.

  • Van der Saar (Holland)
  • Saha and Silvestre (France)
  • Anderson (Brazil)
  • Fletcher (Scotland)
  • Tevez (Argentina)
  • Park (South Korea)

It's a Champions League Final with World Cup level players.

Who will be the ultimate star of the match in your opinion?

On Wednesday I'll be following and reporting my impressions live here on Samba Soccer Club.

Stay tuned!!!

I'm hoping for a good exhibition from both sides tomorrow but I will turn the TV off if Crynaldo starts diving and ruining the match.

I think that Manchester United will win. They already proved their dominance in the UK by winning the premier league, which some consider to be the best league in the world. Drogba is a diver, he always acts weak and then goes down when the situation doesn't favor him. Ronaldo is the best in the world. Glory Glory Man United!

Can I have both teams to lose? Really would love to see Fergie greeting and that the glory hunting oilgarch finally being caught by the KGB.

The thought of a richman’s plaything and Dider Drogba (looks like an elephant) getting a CL winner medal fills me with as much dread as it did last week, when Nacho Novo and Kirk Broadfoot got close to being European winners.

So keep the club inclusive. Man Utd to win 2-0 with Tevez to score first.

We canny have Chelsea joining the “Big Teams” list of UK clubs that have won the European Cup.

They wouldn’t look right alongside Man Utd, Liverpool, Celtic, Aston Villa and, eh, Notts Forest.

Chelsea stronger my word...they barely get in the finals...couldnt score the away goal against liverpool..had to gain it through an own goal.sure they beat liverpool at home 3-2 but look at it 2 goal were scored against them at home. and drogba definately dives and its amazing how convenient he is with it ronaldo is quite consisted and u must admit he does get unfaired..shows he's the best and the 3 defenders are muchly needed if u ask me...but i just love the beast tavez is watch out chelsea..AND THEY'VE DONE IT MAN U HAVE WON THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE!!!the fans are ecstatic..UNITED WE'LL RISE CHELSEA SHALL FALL

A repeat of the preformance at stamford bridge chelsea to edge out utd 2-1, it will be far from an easy match for either team, but if chelsea's midfield of ballack and lampard show up tonight utd could be in big trouble
