Why I hate Manchester United fans

Thursday, 22 May 08, 02:01 AM

I don’t really despise any of United’s players these days. Roy ‘thug’ Keane has moved into management at Sunderland, for example, and Eric ‘thug’ Cantona has disappeared up his own arse - one of the few destinations less appealing than Sunderland.

The current players aren’t particularly irritating. Ronaldo may be a stepover queen but he is admittedly talented and not especially malicious.

The manager remains pompous and petulant but the fawning from the media and the favouritism from referees is no less sickening than that received by Liverpool, Chelsea or Arsenal.

No, the most annoying thing about United remains their fans and there is no better example of that than the one provided by Pete Boyle, of Red Issue, in a recent issue of the Observer. Griping about Blackburn, who had the temerity to give United a game, Boyle whined:

“I didn’t mind how Boro played us, they have a real go at everyone, but Rovers rolled over at Liverpool then played like that.”

How magnanimous of you not to “mind” how Boro played. As if “minding” another team’s performance has anything to do with it. Rovers, eh? They’ve got a nerve. Having a bad game against Liverpool and then playing well against United. It’s so unfair! They probably did it deliberately, just to annoy you.

This then is the crux of the United fans’ arrogance: it’s all about them. The Premier league’s other 16 clubs are, according to those of the United heartlands - Essex, Cornwall and the Home Counties - just there to make up numbers. They’re not supposed to try.

The implication that Blackburn are good enough to decide when to give a top team a tough game is particularly funny. How far into paranoia have United supporters sunk?

Memo to United fans: try taking a season out from the Disneyland experience you call being a fan and have a go at being a proper football supporter. You might learn a little humility.

Fans always believe certain teams are up for playing them and lay down to others. It’s part and parcel of the game and no big deal.

Hey! I resemble that.
It's not easy supporting the best club in Europe, you know.

If you say so Tom. What part of Manchester are you from?

Really good in-depth look at why every United fan in the world is a twat. If only somebody had told me when I started supporting them that they were actually quite a good side, what a joke our "Disneyland experience" is, leaving us unable to comment on football, as we clearly have no idea how it works. (cheers tom kuhr for undermining me before I'd even written this). I think maybe the implication of the article was that all the other teams SHOULD try, just as hard against other teams as against united. But you couldn't be twisting the meaning of the article could you?

Ok, i think the point of this really is that ALL football fans have the potential to be twats when talking about there own team. I have to hold up my hand and say that occasionally i am a dick when talking about Arsenal and do get a lot of things wrong. Every other football fan should do the same and admit that it is extremely hard to talk impartially about something you care about so much..
Anyway Ralph from personal experience you are a bit of a twat!

A well worded and nice article mr blog owner! I think Manchester United fans have lost touch with the reality compared to "normal football fans". They really believe they can win all competitions they enter and thus get frustrated over minor things that upset their vision. Any Man Utd fans on here travelled the length of the country for a mid week fixture i.e a home game ;) or complained the latest match live on Sky clashes with Eastenders???

Antimanu - shallow name, lol. Why have United lost touch with reality when they begin to think they can win everything ? That's the perfect attitude to have. Should they enter the Champs League saying "Why are we here ? We can't win !". Of course they think they can win FFS. As for Liverpool fan above me here .... Choose Liverpool. Choose the dole queue. Choose to scam disability benefit. Choose not to win a single league title since the backpass rule was implemented. Choose car stereos, hubcaps and stanley knives. Choose celebrities who fuck off out of your city as soon as they have earned the money to do so and then spend the rest of their lives harping on about how wonderful it is. Choose to sing about Munich until confronted with your own tragedy. Choose to end it all in an orgy of self pity, just another excuse to perpetuate the grief culture spawned by your selfish, insular fucked-up excuse for a city. Choose your future. Choose Scouse. The rivalry between Liverpool and Manchester has nothing to do with football !! It was there 150-170 years ago and for good reason too !! Maybe try doing some research and see what the problem is between them.

You only hate them cause your jealous. I don't hate them, i don't like them either. What I do hate is people saying they are supprters of teams (e.g - Man U, Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal) when they don't even live anywhere near their respective cities. You can't call yourself a supporter unless you actully support the team in anyway. Singing, chanting and shouting words of encouragement are ways of supporting the team. Watching them on th TV and looking for their results are not.
