Libertadores - The Joke Continues

Libertadores Banner

The much anticipated final has come. The two best teams in South America will meet head-on in South America’s Copa Libertadores da America final.

As happy as I may be with Fluminense a Brazilian team being in the final, I am also overcome with heartache. Fluminense in last position in the Brazilian Championship “Campeonato Brasileiro” have made it to the final of the most prestigious club championship in South America.

The Brazil championship and Brazilian teams have been in decay as all of their best players leave to Europe by the thousands. The first division of Brazil is diluted with mediocre players.

Still this team, Fluminense, is almost being relegated to the second division of Brazil. Is the South American Clubs so bad that Brasil’s worst team makes it to the final?

In soccer we say great teams and players create their own good luck. What do we say when bad teams create their own good luck….Devine Intervention? Has the soccer Gods gone mad to let this happen?

I will not say much about LDU since I am not familiar with them and their history. However, to me this years Libertadores is a sad.

May the better of the bad teams win!

Enjoy the game!

I strongly disagree with you regarding your "may the better of the bad teams win" statement. You admitted on the subsequent paragraph that you're "not familiar with them and their history", when speaking of Liga
By the way, about half of their starting lineup will playing in countries such as Argentina, Italy and Spain.
FYI, Liga has eliminated América of Mexico and two teams from a league which I consider the best in Latin America (Argentina's San Lorenzo and Estudiantes de La Plata).
As someone that narrates soccer matches for TV and have seen Liga on several occasions, this is a solid team from top to bottom. If the Albos beat Flu, they will be deserving of the title.

I agree with you my friend if they win they will deserve the championship, of coarse. But, the fact stands that the best teams are diluted with bad players. Boca should be there. They have the most experienced team, and they got killed last year in Japan by Milan. With all due respect, neither ADU or Fluminense will show South American Soccer at it's best. The winner of the Libertadores might not even make it to the final of the world championship in Japan. Who cares if you win Libertadores if the winner goes to Japan and loses to the CONCACAF champion, or Asian champion and doesn't make it to the finals. How many championships has ADU won? internationally? Recently? My point stands that mediocre teams are reaching the finals because the competition is bad. Lets see what happens...But these teams are not world class.

As for Boca, they should not be in the final. They failed to take advantage of the first leg of the semifinal of the competition in Buenos Aires where they tied 2-2 versus Fluminense.
To be honest, I'm tired of seeing teams like Boca and Sao Paulo in the final so this Flu-Liga series is a breath of fresh air. Let other teams start their own winning tradition.
Boca gets enough help from the referees as it is.

Just to show you how "mediocre" Liga is, Guerrón will playing in Spain's top flight, Bolaños is close to playing in Argentina with San Lorenzo, Manso looking at a likely return to his native and Vera going to an Argentine or Mexican side.
This is only partial evidence that the Albos have talent.

These teams are not world class man. I mean, just you saying that Mexico is a top league is crazy. Argentina has 4 good teams. And most of their players are gone to Europe. Guerrón is going where? It is good to see new teams in the final I agree with you , but lets not forget new teams are becoming more evident in south America because the big teams are selling their players for cents to the European market. I also like that the new teams "mediocre" teams are giving way to "new" players. This is good also, because it gives a chance to new players that might not get a chance at a bigger club because of politics and not their good playing. But, there is no argument that the diluted South American giants are causing a crises in the quality of play. Thus, they go and play European teams and get spanked; like Boca last year. We are entering a new area, with that comes pros and cons. But, as South Americans this is not the way to get respect for our pretty soccer.

PS: Thanks for telling me about LDU players.

Playing in Mexico beats playing in Ecuador any day of the week. That league pays better than Argentina and Brazil.
Regarding Boca, I'm glad that Milan handed their heads to them because I don't like what the Xeneizes stand for (hooliganism and lack of class among other things).
What's happening in South American football is cyclical. The "historic" teams have their good and bad years.
Some people wonder when teams like Racing Club, Independiente of Avellaneda, Peñarol will regain their lost glory. They made headlines back when Boca didn't even register on the radar.
If Liga wins it all, it will get Ecuador some respect on the international stage.

What's...

Well, Mexico League is not world class because they have refused world class players for years. There are very few foreigners in Mexico, because Mexico hates having foreigners on their team, America is one of the few that loves to have foreigners - Many Mexicans make fun of them because of this.. This OLD Mindset of Mexicans is changing now, but not fast enough. If you notice Mexico is evolving better players now, then ever before...because they are starting to accept they don't know it all and every nation must learn with other nations to become better. Thus, a better generation is emerging. Yes, Mexico League is better than Ecuador League. But, Ecuador still creates good players, and good national teams. Yeah, I don't like Boca, but they have the best soccer in the Libertadores. Not always the best teams win..
