As a life long Spurs fan having supported the club for well over 20 years... I have seen my fair share of quality players at White Hart Lane... From Hoddle to Waddle to Villa & Gazza! There are so many names to choose from? Older Spurs fans will remember the likes of Danny Blanchflower, Jimmy Greaves & Dave "Tiger" Mackay...
But if you had to pick just one player, out of all the greats over the years... who would you pick? Who has been your idol... your hero? The best of the best?
I only go back as far as hoddle and he could do things wih a football that were amazing - a real artist - gazza was great but only did it for a short period - he was also 'high risk' in that he could have cost us the cup final against Forest by getting sent off instead of going off injured. Second to Hoddle in my time was Waddle - everyone seems to forget him but he was highly skilful, deceptively quick and worked hard. You should do a blog on best spurs haircuts - he'd walk that one!
Cheers for comments everyone
I particularly like your comments glenwasgod, your namesake gives it away that you love Hoddle! Well i have to agree with you, as not only was he one of the best if not the best player, Spurs have ever had but also one the most underrated players this country has ever produced.
The fact that he only got 53 caps is a travesty, as he was twice the player Beckham was/is, and also the fact that players like Philip Neville, have more caps than him with 59 is nothing beyond A complete and utter joke!!! It is scandalous.
Finally i have to also agree with you on Chris Waddle, as he too was a all time great! Who was also equally underrated.
Keep em coming... All you Tottenham fans out there
Thanks Karens good choice... After all Steve Perryman is Tottenham's all time record holder for number of appearances at the club, he managed 866 app, & 39 goals. Loyalty like that is sorely missing from the modern game, bar the odd exception... Ala Ryan Giggs for example.
I'd have to say Greaves. My dad banged on about him so much that we decided to get some dvd's of some of the games he was involved in. The guy was electric, he could score goals by the bucketload and was quick as lightning. If he had been around today he would be worth more than Ronaldo.
My personal favourite is probably Klinsmann. He came, he saw, he conquered, he left
Alan Sugar's biggest mistake was letting him leave. He played like he was on a different footballing planet and some of the goals he scored were unreal. To top it all off he came back when we needed him and he banged in 4 goals against wimbledon in what was a 6pointer. LEGEND
Cheers Jamie... Klinsmann will always be remembered as a Legend at the Lane, not only because he tore up the PL when he first arrived, but also because he came and saved us, in our hour of need... 4 goals in one game against the Crazy Gang, it seems like yesterday.
Undoubtedly Jimmy Greaves the goal scoring legend, next I must agree with Karens shout for our one true skipper Steve Perryman and finally my personal favourite Cyril Knowles. Nice one Cyril!
Thanks Dimpys12, good to see new Spurs fans on here... Spread the word!
I'd say Jimmy Greaves a true goalscoring legend ( i also just read his book
) and at a close second Danny Blanchflower. But from a villa fans perspective Michael Dawson ! He gave us a load of goals last season !

For me it would be out of Gazza & Hoddle, with Glenn just getting the nod... Just!
Well the best ever is Greaves, but that i have seen probably Gazza!
