Eurocast, the Euro 2008 podcast, episode 16 - Spain are champions.

Monday, 30 June 08, 11:44 AM

So Spain were deserved winners of Euro 2008 last night. I think most people agree they played the best football and on the night Germany really didn't trouble them at all.

In today's Eurocast we get perspective from both sides. Our regular Spanish correspondent Luigi and our German correspondent Tom give their opinions on last night's final while Tom Thom(p)son and I chat in studio about it.

A bit later in the week we'll be looking for your emails/voicemails about the bests and worsts of the tournament. We'll put up a blog post here to tell you exactly what we're looking for so hold off until then. Perhaps to get the conversation going in the comments today people could select their team of the tournament.

I don't mean 'Spain' or 'Russia' but pick the best XI from all the teams who took part in Euro 2008. And what did you think of the tournament anyway? To me it was much more enjoyable than the last World Cup. Your thoughts very welcome.

I just want to say thanks to everyone who contributed to the Eurocast - whether by voicemail or email it's much appreciated.

Remember, you can subscribe to the Eurocast using iTunes by clicking here (this is also the subsctription for the Week in Football, the regular podcast which will be coming back soon), if you want to subscribe to the feed itself the feed URL is here, you can download directly here or you can listen from this page:

That's that.

Eurocast's Euro 2008 final predictions thread

Saturday, 28 June 08, 12:12 PM

All right then,

due to technical issues we won't be doing a preview show for the final but will, of course, have a post-final Eurocast on Monday.

So, who's going to win it? Can the Germans grind out a result or will Spain's attacking philosophy prove too much for the suspect German defence?

I reckon Spain will win it.

Spain 2-0 for me. Possibly in extra time though.

Right, let's have your Euro 2008 final predictions in the comments. Enjoy the game.

Eurocast 15 - Fabregastic

Friday, 27 June 08, 07:55 AM

Morning all,

hard to say that Spain didn't deserve that last night, particular given the way Fabregas came on and inspired the team. Villa's injury should see him start the final which is a good thing for football purists - he's been fantastic whenever he's played.

What do you think? Were you as disappointed in Arshavin as some of the emailers to the Eurocast today? Was he found wanting when the stakes were high?

Your thoughts welcome in the comments, as always. No predictions for the final yet - there's another post to come to do that and hopefully a preview show before Sunday. Your thoughts via email or voicemail are more than welcome for that. Don't be shy.

Eurocast 14 - one more semi-final

Thursday, 26 June 08, 11:26 AM

Morning all,

Eurocast to follow. What a good game that was last night, eh? The Turks, with barely 11 fit players, gave Germany a real fright and I don't think they deserved that last minute loser. It is a loser when you're describing it from the Turkish point of view, right?

Perhaps the Croatian and Czech fans won't necessarily agree with me there. Germany though - they looked poor and you'd certainly fancy both Spain or Russia to beat them if they play like that in the final. Although it wouldn't be any surprise if they played brilliantly in that game. Germans love surprises.

Tonight sees Spain v Russia, two of the tournament's most attacking and exciting sides. Hopefully they won't cancel each other out and we'll get the great game we're all hoping for.

Remember, we want your thoughts and emails on the games, so feel free to chip in with whatever you like.

Eurocast, the Euro 2008 podcast, episode 13 - plus semi-final predictions

Monday, 23 June 08, 10:40 AM

Morning all,

hope you enjoyed the weekend's football. There wasn't much to enjoy about last night's game between Spain and Italy apart from the fact the negative Italians got knocked out. A feast of football it was not.

Russia were excellent against Holland and I'm looking forward to the game against Spain. And despite all their injuries and suspensions you just can't write off Turkey. That's two remarkable comebacks now although I fear they're probably a bit too stretched to trouble the Germans.

So, semi-final predictions from me:

Germany 3-1 Turkey

Spain 2-1 Russia

Yours in the comments as per usual.

Now, in today's Eurocast Tom and I discuss all the weekend's action, make some suggestions about how to stop players kicking the ball out when someone is "injured" and we talk to Luigi about Spain's win over his home country and our Dutch correspondent Ashwin.

Please remember we do want to hear what you think about Euro 2008. It's easy.

Eurocast, the Euro 2008 podcast, episode 12 - plus 1/4 final predictions 2

Friday, 20 June 08, 10:23 AM

Morning all,

predictions. A difficult business, I'm sure you'll agree. Bakes predicted 3-2 for Germany but after extra time. Should we give him the kudos? Let the people decide.

I'm really looking forward to tonight's game between Croatia and Turkey - not the most high profile of teams but it's often those that provide the most entertainment. My guess is:

Croatia 4-2 Turkey

A veritable goalfest. Come on! Your predictions in the comments please.

Right, in today's Eurocast we have some of your emails about the German win over Portugal, exclusive dressing room access so we can hear Cristiano Ronaldo's post-game reaction, we talk to Tom our German correspondent and there's a quick preview of tonight's game.

Remember, we are looking for your thoughts on the games, so please email or leave voicemail for the Eurocast. It's easy and it makes you more attractive to the opposite sex. Not doing so makes you poor and smelly. So you know what to do.

Eurocast, the Euro 2008 podcast, episode 11 - plus 1/4 final predictions

Thursday, 19 June 08, 10:06 AM

We'll start with congrats to 4ndyL who got both games right in yesterday's predictions. Erm, actually no he didn't. So I withdraw those congratulations and give him half back for getting the Spain result right along with wandarah.

As usual I got none right so for anyone just starting this prediction thing my advice would be to look at what I do and do differently.

It's the first quarter final today though, so that means only one prediction so I have 50% less chance of being wrong. Or something. I reckon Germany are going to do it, actually.

Germany 2-1 Portugal

Lehmann to save a Ronaldo penalty too. Let us know what you think in the comments. I do like the knock-out stages though, it does make for more exciting football.

Now for the Eurocast. We've got an unhappy Swedish correpondent after his country's exit to the impressive Russia last night, Luigi talks about Spain's win over Greece and how the Spanish press are already starting to build up the game against Italy and a look ahead to tonight's game with Tom Thom(p)son.

Please do keep the emails and voicemails coming though. The more the merrier.

Eurocast, the Euro 2008 podcast, episode 9 - plus predictions

Tuesday, 17 June 08, 11:31 AM

Morning all,

a bit later than usual but better late than never. Although that remains open to discussion. Let's start as usual with the predictions. Firstly congrats to ElTorro and 4ndyL who both got the Croatia v Poland result correct yesterday.

I keep expecting lots of goals in games, perhaps it's time to think differently. So for today:

Romania 1-2 Holland

Italy 1-0 France

Expect a glut of goals now! In today's Eurocast, the Euro 2008 podcast, we talk to German correspondant Tom about the 1-0 win over Austria and he's not optimistic about Germany's chances against Portugal in the next round. We also catch up with our regular Italian correspondant Gabriele and he previews Italy v France from an Italian perspective.

Plus there are your emails and voicemails and do please keep them coming.

Eurocast, the Euro 2008 podcast, episode 6 - plus predictions day 7

Friday, 13 June 08, 09:14 AM

Friday! Hurrah. The end of the working week. But not for the Eurocast, oh no. We'll keep on 'casting.

As usual we'll start with our predictions and well done to Hodiddle, the only one to get a correct prediction yesterday.

My completely wrong predictions for today are:

Italy 2-0 Romania

France 1-2 Holland

I'm putting money on Holland and Italy for the wins. I think France are too old, too injured and too Domenechy to win the game. Regular pundits should now know to do the exact opposite of what I say as I never get any right. But I have to start sometime, right? The law of averages and all that. Could today be the day?

Now the Eurocast. I talk to German correspondant Tom about their 2-1 defeat to Croatia yesterday, there are some of your emails about Austria v Poland, some thoughts about the penalty that was given, a preview of Italy v Romania with Horia and more.

Please do get in touch with the podcast, we're always happy to hear from you by email or voicemail. Give us your opinion on the issues, the controversies, the players, performances or anything else to do with Euro2008.

Eurocast episode 2, the Euro 2008 podcast, - plus predictions day 3

Monday, 09 June 08, 10:26 AM

Morning all,

hopefully you've enjoyed a fine weekend of football. Nice to have it back, isn't it?

We'll start with the predictions from yesterday unlike the first day nobody got both correct. Hitzelspergerandchip got Austria 0-1 Croatia correct while gimmeaminute was spot on with Germany 2-0 Poland.

So far I have gotten none of them right because I am absolutely crap at predicting anything. That won't stop me having a go though, my predictions for today's games are:

Romania 0-2 France

Holland 2-2 Italy

Right then, tell us how you think the games are going to pan out in the comments below. You'll also find Eurocast2 to listen to or download.

In this episode we talk to our German correspondant Tom about the victory over Poland, Austria's defeat to Croatia and there are some emails about Croatia's diving, thoughts on refs and a preview of tonight's games in the group of death.

But remember we really want to hear what you think. Don't be shy, let rip, be creative, whatever you like. Just take part.

To contact us use the info below:
