A wet outlook for the start of Euro 2008

Friday, 06 June 08, 12:48 AM

The expected Swiss hordes all watching the team play this weekend may have to slightly reconsider their plans as today (and for the next two days apparently) the rain is falling steadily here in Basel. Being a fairly hardy bunch I don't expect this to massively change things but you never know.

Good news for the national side is the expected return of the experienced duo of Patrick Müller and Tranquillo Barnetta to full fitness. Though if they are expecting to sneak over and spy on the Czech training sessions; they may find it difficult as Karel Brückner has plans to stop them being watched. His team will only complete part of the training on the pitch with further work back at the hotel.

L'Equipe is also reporting that Scotland would be ready to host Euro 2012 if the current problems with the Poland/Ukraine bid transpire to stop them hosting the tournament.

The Swiss police have also come up with a novel method of dealing with potential hooligans at Euro2008. They have sent them a letter saying that they are not welcome and would they please, kindly, stay away. Rather polite I think.
