Is David in the House?

Tuesday, 07 August 07, 08:45 PM

"The No. 1 selling item in Sports Authority in the United States is the David Beckham jersey," said Major League Soccer commissioner Don Garber But I'm still waiting to actually see him play. Beckham isn't my favorite player but it's like seeing a cool commercial for a T.V. show, watching the fist 16 minutes of it, then the power goes out. Where'd he go?

I'm not looking to buy a jersey either (they look pretty cool) but i'd likee to see it used you know. Especially right now when there isn't much soccer to watch. ESPN will be all over this guy. You guys have any comments on this because this is odd how one ankle can spoil the coming of a "star".

And also something I read about today in the Daily Globe-The 2006 WC final attracted more tv viewers than baseball's 2005 World sereis pulled in on any night and the MLS is th 12th most attended soccer league in the world.

That's pretty nice for a country in need of a soccer ambassador.

The US soccer ambassador. Unofficially.

Why care?

Wednesday, 18 July 07, 08:39 PM

People in the U.S. are crazy about lazy 10 second action sports like american football and baseball. The MLS is getting much less than it would want in popularity and profit. This is why americans just are not into soccer. You can't make someone do what they don't want to do.

My small soccer squad of kids under 16 is full of new kids that have barely ever played soccer. That's how you increase interest in soccer. By informing kids yourself, not posting summarys of profits of each MLS game on ESPN. I doubt bringing David Beckham to Hollywood will popularize the sport. It just makes it more interesting to people who like the sport already.

My U-16 team is far better than it was at the beginning of the season. It shows progress for the  growth of the passion of the game. Freddy Adu is heading for somewhere in Europe and we are left to look for another "face" of the league. It is good for the MLS to have Beckham, but it just seemed sad to me watching it all over the news. I just needed to get that all off my chest.

Please I except all comments on my point of view.

                                     Beckham
