Tahiti have beaten Solomon Islands 2-1 in the opening match on day four of the OFC U-17 Championship at North Harbour Stadium. The other Group B game this afternoon sees New Caledonia take on Cook Islands at 4pm.

The match kicks off

1' Tahiti goalkeeper Heremataarii Hatitio is called into action immediately to snuff out a Solomon attack

2' Tahiti have an early chance from Tevairoa Tehuritaua's corner but nobody can get a shot on target

3' The Solomons have their first chance when captain Dickson Bua tries his luck with a long-range effort but it flies well over the bar

4' Solomon striker John Bitiai pounces on a loose back pass from Orlando Teiva but goalkeeper Hatitio gets there at the same time and the ball richochets over the bar

7' The Solomons have dominated these opening exchanges and Tahiti have not been able to get out of their half very often

8' Tahiti now have the ball and are exerting some pressure of their own

8' The Solomons win it back and break through Gabriel Bosi but his deep cross from the left fails to find a team-mate

11' Bitiai almost gets on the end of a cross for the Solomons but his header is partially blocked and bounces into Hatitio's hands

13' Tihoni Yohann finds Tahiti team-mate Heremana Teikiteepupuni with a glorious cross-field ball but he loses his footing just as he tries to shoot

16' Bosi gets to a back post cross from Bua for the Solomons but can't get a good enough connection to beat Hatitio

20' The sides appear very well-matched and it is difficult to pick who will open the scoring

22' Tahiti have a free kick in a very promising position not far from the box but Manuarii Hauata hits his low free kick past the wall and to the left of the goal

24' Clarence Bonsley crosses from the right for the Solomons but the ball drifts harmlessly behind the goal

25' Raramane tries to break the deadlock for the Solomons when he cuts inside after a flowing move and fires a shot from the edge of the area into the side netting

26' SUBSTITUTION: Tehotu Doom is replaced by Ranihei Teumere for Tahiti
