Cook Islands 1 - 4 Fiji


Fiji have beaten Cook Islands 4-1 in their men's Group B match at Stade Boewa in Boulari at the XIV Pacific Games.

The match kicks off

1' A torrential downpour has taken place just before kick off and these are far from ideal conditions for the players

5' Esava Naqaleca tries to get forward down the left for Fiji but is called offside

6' Fiji are heavily favoured to win this match but the slippery surface is likely to be a good leveller

7' Star Fiji striker Roy Krishna nearly gets on the end of a long free kick from goalkeeper Simione Tamanisau but can't get a foot to the ball

8' Naqaleca has a half chance at the back post but hits the side netting with his close range volley

10' Fiji have the ball in the net when Maciu Dunadamu finds Krishna in the box and he tucks it home but is adjudged to be offside

14' Seveci Rokotakala swings a cross over from the left for Fiji but Cook Islands goalkeeper Tony Jamieson comes out to gather

16' The artificial turf at Stade Boewa has held up well to this heavy rain and no puddles have yet developed

17' Tahiri Elikana hits an ambitious effort at goal from well out but doesn't strike it at all cleanly and the ball goes straight out for a throw in

21' Alvin Avinesh lets fly for Fiji from distance but his volley bounces wide

24' The rain has eased off now but the light is still very bad and there a likely to be more downpours before the game is out

30' Alvin Singh tries his luck from 30 yards for Fiji but his effort goes well over the bar

32' Singh has a more conventional chance this time at the back post from a corner but can't get his header on target

34' Cook Islands will be pleased with their efforts so far and their aim will be to prevent Fiji scoring again before the break

36' Esava Naqaleca has a strike at goal after a neat interchange but Jamieson saves well at his near post

35' GOAL!!! Fiji 2 - Cook Islands 0: Fiji make it two from the resulting corner as Malakai Kainihewe gets his head to the ball ahead of Jamieson

41' Taniela Waqa runs onto a through ball and shoots but has to stretch to strike the ball and it fizzes wide

41' GOAL!!! Cook Islands 1 - Fiji 2: Cook Islands get some reward for their efforts when Fiji goalkeeper Simione Tamanisau somehow lets a straightforward shot from Joseph Ngauora slip through his hands

45' Ngauora has another chance when he nods a near post header over the bar from a corner

68' Esava Naqaleca is next to try his luck from outside the box but drags the attempt past the near post

69' GOAL!!! Fiji 4 - Cook Islands 1: Fiji extend their lead when Swamy cuts onto his right inside the box and rifles a shot past Jamieson

70' SUBSTITUTION: Maciu Dunadamu is replaced by Archie Watkins for Fiji

73' Seveci Rokotakala hits a shot at goal from well out which Jamieson tips round his near post

73' A goalmouth scramble ensues from the corner but no Fiji player can force the ball home
