MAKURU STUN KOSSA TO MAINTAIN THEIR GRIP ON DJ LEAGUE

Monday, 17 March 08, 10:26 AM

HONIARA - Makuru maintained its stanglehold on the DJ soccer league following its 3-1 win over Kossa in the top of the table clash at Lawson Tama on Thursday last week.

Two goals from former international Batram Suri and one from George Aba gave them all three points and put them in the favorites seat to take out the minor premiership title.

Infront of a capacity crowd, Makuru shot into action straight from the kick off with Suri probing the KOSSA defense almost at will.

By halftime, Makuru was cruising with three unanswered goals which effectively ended the match as a contest

However, KOSSA regrouped and came back with a lot more urgency in the next half and had better goal scoring chances.

Their dangermen, James Naka and Joe Luwi came close but Makuru defenders kept them in check leaving them with little room to manoeuver and execute their finishing.

Makuru brought in fresh players to hold their lead but were unable to add to their tally in the second half.

Naka and Luwi combined sweetly for Kossa but were unable to break the deadlock until injury time when Philip Ashley was brought down inside the penalty box.

Naka slotted home KOSSA’s consolation goal to wrap up proceedings.

Meanwhile, the result of this match gave KOSSA’s coaching team some work to do before they head off to Port Vila for their away match with Tafea and  Ba toward the end of the month.

SIFF president Martin Alufurai has praised the Solympic team and management for being good ambassadors at the recent OFC Olympic qualifiers in Lautoka Fiji.

He says the attitude of the players on and off field has been great and thanked the management for maintaining good team spirit among the players.

Alufurai who went to Fiji as one of the match commissioners appointed by OFC to oversee the competition has described Solympics overall performance as excellent.

“The players know what to do and their pace was just magnificent when with the ball,” said Alufurai.

Meanwhile, Solympics may be called on to represent Oceania at the Beijing Olympic Games if New Zealand Olympic Committee decides not to send their men’s team.

From the game between Kossa FC and Makuru FC, it seems that Makuru is the strongest ever and should be sent overseas often.
