NAKA SENDS SOLOMONS HOME IN STYLE

Tuesday, 22 July 08, 09:23 AM

Solomon Islands bowed out of Marseille 2008 in style by beating El Salvador 6-3 in the battle for third place in Group B. James Naka headlined the victory, scoring four goals to take his tournament tally to eight.

Naka opened the scoring in the early stages, and he doubled his side's lead 13 seconds after the first restart. Jose Ruiz and Elias Ramirez got on the score-sheet for the Salvadorans in the second period, but Naka added another two to send Solomon Islands out for the last 12 minutes holding a 4-2 lead.

Tomas Hernandez pulled the Central Americans to within one goal of their opponents, but a double from Omo put the game out of their reach.

The win capped off a memorable tournament for James Naka who was undoubtedly the standout player for the Bilikiki Boys.

"We played much better in our final game and I'm really happy with the result. We've had a great experience and it was great to finish the tournament with a victory. We'll hope to do better next year," Naka said.

El Salvador Coach Rudis Mauricio Gonzalez Gallo also had praise for the Solomon Island star.

"I was really pleased with the attitude of my players. The problem today was that we couldn't contain Naka. But it was great to be here. The organisation from FIFA was excellent and really like Marseille and its fans. I hope France win tonight and can go to the final," Gallo said.

Well done Bilikiki. I saw the game statistics during the game this morning and although it was generally not in Solo's favour, the team that scored the most goals wins. Solo must work hard on
their weaknesses both on and off the field. They desperately need competitions before the next qualifier for the next BS World Cup in Dubai. It would be desirable to have Omokirio, Ngaitini, Hale
and Koto taking up coaching and scouting for young Bilikikis. Maybe SIFF should now take the game nation-wide. Also the sand texture of Marseilles seems to be softer and if that is the standard
facility then Oceania will have to set a standard for us if we are to have the right pitch conditions. Happy Beach Soccer !

This win means the other two previous matches were used as warm up matches.
Next time have competitive warm up matches before the actual game comes to hand.
    Congrat Bilikiki..

Just some observations on the game last night.
    1. This is the one game of the tournament where Fred Hale turn up. COmpared to the two previous games, Hale was alert and his reflex saves were
accurate. The result could could have turn the El Salvadorean way if Hale hadnt made some brilliant saves. Wish he had turn-up for the previous games.

    2. Nake proved to the World that he
is amongst the top-10 marksmen in Beach Soccer. The commentator cannot stop talking about Naka and his skills and ability. This was reflected by the tight marking on him by the Salvadorean
    defence, resulting in free kicks.

    3. Gideon Omokirio had a cracker...scoring two goals.

    4. Positives on Rence, Taeman, Hosea, other new ones

    5. And Finally, but not the
least, I raise my hat to the growing number of supporters Solomon Football attracts world wide. It makes me smile

Certainly we have seen that our bilikiki boys cannot be played around with. Lack of preparations may be the contributing factor in their first two performances. I think SIFF should have learnt a

lot from the two previous world cup tournaments. SIFF should invest more in the talents of Naka, Hosea,Ne'e, Rence, Nicholas and others, whom undoutedly can become world class beach

soccer players. On the result against El Savador, I salute the bilikiki team for their win and the way they played, cos there seemed to be a lot improvements in the way they played agaisnt El

Savador. I just wonder if that was the first game, the results against Italy and Portugal will be different. The boys admitted lack of preparations as a contributing factor. Again will SIFF
    ignore the
    team's side of the story?

One area that Solomon Islands need to develop inorder to be in par with the other countries is the shooting department. We need to find people who can shoot from from behind or the center of the
    pitch.

At the moment we try to work the ball up front and expect Naka to work his magic there. We need a plan B, and this is where goal shooters come in with long range shots.

    Hope
    Koto reads this!

    Cheers!

U r right Sissoko, in every aspect there must be alternatives and that is how other world powers are successful, cos they have options and adaptability skills.

If Koto does not access this website then he will not know so I recommend that both of you Sissoko and andy69 must talk to Koto about this.

Koto might don't have the answer either, Solomons just started this code, so as time goes and the code expanded, perhaps more utility players can be identified, there is only a small pool of
players to select from and may be just in Honiara i guess. Unlike in Brazil there are 1 million players (pool)to select/finalise a team.
But, anyway, contratulations for great show and
hopefully, more Nakas can be identified.

There are lots of solomon boys who are like Naka. They are out there in the villages just like Naka. Go and find them and include them in the Bilikiki team and get ride of some of the recent
ones. Bilikiki needs major overhaul. Some are just hand picked for sure.
SIFF should do something and it will reap it next year.

If you know them by name it would be cheaper if you let SIFF know. They need you.
