PNGFA SET TO GO TO THE POLLS

Thursday, 19 June 08, 10:24 AM

PORT MORESBY - The Papua New Guinea Football Association (PNGFA)is ready to go to the polls PNGFA chief executive officer Dimirit Mileng said in a press release yesterday.

Mileng said nominations for the position of PNGFA president and six executive committee members for the association were open after the 30th executive committee meeting had proposed the date for the annual general congress.

The congress will be held in Mt Hagen on July 5.

“All nominations have closed and after verifying the nomination forms, the following candidates are vying for the position of president,” Mileng said.

He said the incumbent David Chung is running for a second term, while his senior vice president, Seth Daniels has also been nominated to contest the position.

“Port Moresby Soccer Association president Fabian Chow has been nominated to contest the seat.

This brings to three the candidates for the high profile position of the president,” he said.

Six executive committee members will also be voted for during the congress, to bring the members of PNGFA to seven as per the requirements of the statute.

He said those that had been nominated including current members are: John Raka, Linda Wonuhali, Kurt Reimann, Joe Turia, and Seth Daniels.

Others who are also vying to get elected and have been nominated are: Simon Koima, Stan Basiou, James So-on, Peter Angasa, Fabian Chow, Steven Peris, Morea Vavine and John Kapi Natto.

The election of president and the committee members will use the elimination process as required under the statutes of PNGFA.

There will be no election of the senior and junior vice presidents during the congress.

The FIFA and Oceania Football Confederation statutes have been adapted by the PNGFA and included in the PNGFA statutes.

During the PNGFA congress all the candidates for the positions of president and committee members will be voted for by the delegates of member associations using a ballot paper with an elimination process as required.

Unfortunately, if this same President retains his seat, then I am sorry but PNG will never ever be Count Dracula. He seems to be spending more time in Malaysia on business than in PNG organising
competitive football (soccer & not Aussie Rules!!!). The top team in the current PNGFA semi-professional league (no relegation or promotion) contains quite a few Solomon
    Islanders.

Anyway, all the best in the PNGFA elections and let us do hope the new PNGFA President is football (soccer) minded.

Em tasol mi tokim iupela ol poroman.

    Cheers from
    Honiara.

I believe PNGFA is fullfilling its constitution by going to the polls and let the election takes its place so that the new President who is elected must carry PNG Football forward and not
backward. Solomon Islanders input into PNGFA semi pro champion club is an investment and needs the combination of stronpela PNG and International players to take PNG higher.

Yep Staysimple. However we must wake up to the fact that they are using our lads to build up their league. I heard a few of them are leaving this week. Maybe it's good for the boys because our
local league is not giving them enough competition.

Yep Squid, rightly so but to some extent may be its where the pasture is green that attracts the cows to graze so..may be a bit more of monetary than enough competition.
