SOLOMON ISLANDS HEADING TO BRAZIL FOR FUTSAL WORLD CUP

Saturday, 14 June 08, 08:09 PM

The Solomon Islands will represent the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) at the FIFA Futsal World Cup in Brazil in September after winning the OFC/Vodafone Futsal Championship in Suva tonight.

The Solomon’s only needed three points from their final game against Tuvalu after Tahiti defeated Vanuatu 2-1 in the opening game of the day.

They finished it off in style with a 12-0 win and earned a birth at their first ever FIFA Futsal World Cup.

Micah Lea’alafa led the way with four goals while Elliot Ragomo, Jack Wetney and Francis Lafai scored two apiece. James Egeta and Alfred Punguika completed the rout with late goals.

Tahiti leapfrogged Vanuatu into second place and the silver medal with another inspirational performance, coming from behind to snatch the win in the last minute.

The wild celebrations of the Tahitians were in sharp contrast to the tears of the Vanuatu side who narrowly missed out on their world cup dream.

Fedy Vava opened the scoring in the 5th minute for Vanuatu before Michael Mahuri equalised just before halftime. Matana Bea snuck the winner in the final minute of the match and sent the Tahitian party into a celebrating frenzy.

Fiji collected their third win in the final match of the tournament with a 4-1 victory over New Zealand.

Fiji opened the scoring in the 31st minute when the tournaments golden boot – Kamal Hassan potted his 14th goal of the tournament.

New Zealand equalized in the 37th minute when Joshua Martin found the net before Assis Chand grabbed two goals in the space of a minute to turn the game back in Fiji’s favour. Muni Arvindra Naidu killed the game off with a goal in the last minute.

Yeah Congratulation again to the solomons. What the great achievement, thumb of the ur football federation who prepares those young talents from the very young age till now they started to reap
the result. I guess if other Oceania countries develope futsal as what solomon islands is doing, the region will produce some of the world's best futsal players in the world in yrs to come.

I was in Taipei (Rep of China) who host Futsal world cup in 2004, and i watch almost all the games in knock round and the finals.

These are the teams to watch.
    1. Spain
    2. Brazil

    3. Italy
    4. Argentina.

These teams are supper good, thought teams like spain are quite physical with good height.

Hope Solomon can have some trial matches in Europe before
going to Brazil. Dont go to Australia cos even Australia was beaten very badly by Thailand in Taipei.

    anyway good luck solo

I also found my soul mate because she thought i was a

Congratualations Solomon Islands. I knew the result even before the Saturday game. I was at the Peninsula Hotel in Suva in the late evening having a glass of beer after the Futsal game beside the
pool. It was really amazing when I saw the Solomon Islands and Tahiti players swimming and sharing jokes together at the pool - this was just after Tahita was beaten by Solomon Islands. The
Tahitian boys were really amazed by the Solomon Islanders skills and they just cant stop talking about them. It was at this point that I realise Vanuatu has no chance against Tahiti in the
Saturday's game and it will be the Solomon Islanders that will be going to BRAZIL! So cheers to all the Solomon fans, its not the win itself but the manner in which the win was achieved on you
    hearts throughout the region.

To all my Tavales of Fiji, reconsider your Futsal structure and don't mix it with outdoor soccer - citing fatigue as

To my Kanaky brothers - you've done your best, though the two first games were tough and they determine your tournament. And to Tahiti - your determination

Diox3, If Vanuatu want to reach any FIFA tournament in the future, they need to train hard and work hard for it. Vanuatu has to prepare itself for 2012, because by then Solo will be flooded with

Anyway, for now I'll savor the moment because next time it may not be the Solomons.

A big Hi-Five to the Kurukurus for your Victory at the recent OFC Futsal 2008 in Suva.

You have done a marvelous job and now heading to the FIFA Futsal in Brazil in September.

    Now
your homework is to prepare well for the Brazil showdown amongst some of the biggest names in world football.

Thank you skipper and all the team of players and coaches for your achievement
so far. SO FAR SO GOOD boys and men.

Wish you the BEST of Luck for your trip to Brazil. From the South Pacific to South America, from an island nation in the great Ocean to a much bigger
    nation.

Keep flying the Solo Flag high in FUTSAL (or should I say FootSol)and Beach Soccer in the World Arena.

KURUKURUS TO FIFA FUTSAL IN BRAZIL...one good!!

Congrtulations to the Solomon Island boys as they deserve to represent Oceania as much as Vanuatu and Tahiti. But at the end of the day, it is the results in the court that counts.

    So no
hard feelings, we should all now support Solo who is also a Melanesian Country to represnt OFC as well as the Melanesian Countries.

To all Vanuatu fans, we should now accept the fact that
we take the third position and must accept reality that in tournaments, the final outcome will depend on the results of ALL games and not one game only. We should all now take off our hats for
the Solomon Island team and congratulate them on their win, than criticising them....that is true spirit of fair play.

To Solo, best wishes for your campaign in Brazil.

I would like to congratulate the Solomon Islands Futsal Team. I wish them all the best for the Brazil Futsal World Cup.

To Vanuatu Team and supporters,,,,you must accept your defeat but
must be proud that you have defeated Solomon Islands but fall short of reaching Brazil. But prepare well for the next Oceania Futsal Championship.

From my observation, Futsal in Solomon
Islands have developed very fast over the years, especially after they were beaten very badly at the Futsal Champions in Australia. Four years later in Fiji (2008), the Solomon Islands Futsal
Team became the Oceania Champion and are heading for Brazil.

    All the best

To Vanuatu Football Federation, when will you learn???? Obviously, Marcelino (the Coach) lacks the tactical know-how for a competitive tournament like this. Vanuatu should have gone through, but
because of a coach who never play futsal not to mention soccer, so he lacks the knowledge of what is required for a competitive tournament like this. Looses to New Zealand and Tahiti is an
indication of that!!! I don't blame the players, I blame the Coach and the Management team. So it is high time, VFF pulls up its shocks and look for much better qualified coaches than blindly
selecting or keeping people who will always fail Vanuatu, despite the fact that Vanuatu has equal chances. So VFF, be humble and take heed than pretenting you all know everything!!!

Gongratulations Solo on your qualification..!.All the best in Brazil. I said earlier it does not matter who represents Oceania, it depends on how we perform at the world stage. Australia who
represented Oceania in 2004 lost 10-0 to Brazil, 5-0 to czeck republic, 3-2 to Thailand and came last in their pool. Seeing Brazil is one thing, futsal at the world stage in something yet to
    discover.

Solo has been in Brazil since beach soccer started and now futsal...lets hope that with the experience they can bring pride to oceania..!

A FIFA official once said..' the
aim should be to beat the best in the world, not you nearest rival'...

To our solo wantoks,...we will accept our defeat of course. All we're asking now is you do the region proud. Solo will
win or lose as a regional representative.

To colleague tatwin....there are many people like you. the kind that talks and complains but contributes very little... that fact is that Marcellino accepted the call, while you were too busy
making a living...! Do VFF a favour...send in your application and CV.. (or will you retaliate for the sake of it!) which is what you are...!

ramonD, what do you make of the loss with NZ and Tahiti? These are little things that make the difference because while we are so close to the first place yet Soooo very far away!

    These
are calls and judgement for VFF, and obviously they got it wrong again. I stand by my point of view, and I have a right to express my concern as a Ni Vanuatu. ramonD, if you are already in the
VFF system and can't accept criticism for the sake of improving the code, then you are definitely in the wrong place!!! Find another sport.
