The Korea Professional Football League does not have an official promotion and relegation system. Underneath the K-League exists the semi pro/amateur National League that was established in 2003 with 14 members. In 2006 the champion of the National League was eligible for promotion based on certain criteria but rejected the chance to play in the Korean Professional Football League.
