About Futbol Club Barcelona - FC Barcelona

Founded in 1899, Futbol Club Barcelona, commonly known as FC Barcelona or Barça, live up to their motto "Mes que un club" or "More than a club." Considered a Catalan institution, the club holds a place in Spanish history for remaining a safe haven for Catalan pride after the Spanish Civil War. Playing out of Camp Nou Stadium in Barcelona, the club has been managed by Frank Rijkaard since 2003. Barcelona FC were founding members of La Liga, Spain's professional football league, in 1928 and have never been relegated from the Primera Division. The club has won 18 La Liga Championships, successively taking the cup from 1991-94 and most recently in 1998, 1999, 2005 and 2006. They have a record number of 24 Copa del Rey wins and won the Supercopa de Espana seven times since 1983 and the Copa de la Liga twice before its dissolution. FC Barcelona also claimed international championship wins for the UEFA Champions League in 1992 and 2006, the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup in 1979, 1982, 1989 and 1997, and the European Super Cup in 1992 and 1997. The club's home kits consists of blue and red striped jerseys, blue shorts and blue socks and their away kits consists of blue and light blue striped jerseys, blue shorts and blue and light blue striped socks. While most professional teams accept commercial sponsorship for their jerseys, Barcelona FC have partnered with the humanitarian organization UNICEF, including the UNICEF logo on their shirts and pledging to give them €1.5 million every year until 2011.
