The two teams last met in the inaugural 2012 Trans Tasman Cup in September, with Australia taking the series with three victories. It was the first time that a FIFA-sanctioned futsal tournament had been played in New Zealand. The success of the tournament led to both teams calling for it to be an annual event.
The ASB Trans Tasman Cup matches will form part of a Futsal showcase at the ASB Sports Centre, Wellington throughout the weekend, creating a weekend packed with Futsal action. The three match series will be run in conjunction with the ASB National Junior Festival and Youth Championships.

The timing for the Trans Tasman match-up falls directly ahead of the kick off for the first OFC Futsal Championship Invitational which will see OFC’s top futsal nations compete against Malaysia and Australia from AFC.
The teams will travel up to Auckland following the Trans Tasman Cup with the OFC tournament running from 23-27 July at The Trust’s Arena.
