Sharma is vice-president of the association and has been selected for the role due to his success in taking the Navua district sides to greater heights.
“I can confirm that vice-president Anil Sharma has been appointed as the national team director and will now be in charge of all the national sides,” Fiji FA chief executive officer Bob Kumar says.
“The appointment was decided by the Fiji FA board. Anil will work with the national coaches and his first task is taking the national men’s and women’s sides to the Pacific Games.
“Anil is no stranger to football and we hope that he is able to bring on board the success he has had with Navua.”
The Pacific Games will be held from August 27 to September 10 in Noumea.
While the Fiji women’s team will be out to better their third-place finish in the previous tournament, the men’s competition will be a vital one in deciding Fiji’s fate in the bid to qualify for the FIFA World Cup Brazil 2014.
The three highest-placed men’s sides at the Pacific Games will go through to the second stage of the qualification process, where they will play-off against New Zealand’s All Whites to find Oceania’s representative.
That side will then meet either an Asian or South/Central American opponent for a berth in Brazil.
