Tuesday’s official opening at Lawson Tama Stadium on Tuesday included a parade featuring nine of the ten teams that will participate in the competition.
Speaking at the launch, SIFF vice-president Edward Omokirio highlighted four important factors that teams need to take into account in order to develop football in the country.
“Firstly, commitment for your performance,” he outlined.
“Secondly, the effort that you put in to fulfil your commitment to your team to succeed. Thirdly, the motivation or small words your coaches, managers, parents and guidance you share with you that can make positive impact.
“Finally, discipline.”
Omokirio says he hopes each of the players that make up the ten teams in this competition will make the most of the opportunity.
“We want this competition to be a pathway for you, and hope this will be the first step in helping you find success at the next level.”
The FIFA supported league provides the participating teams with uniforms including boots and socks, as well as balls and other football equipment.
