The five-day course was held at the PNG Football Academy in Lae earlier this month and was conducted by English FA regional development officer Marieanne Spacey and England women’s goalkeeping coach Keith Rees.
A total of 20 participants working in women’s football around the country took part in the course which was made possible thanks to the Memorandum of Understanding between OFC and the English FA.
The goal is to help develop coaches from the local member associations and equip them with the tools necessary to help them build a successful future for female players.
The content covered topics as wide ranging as technical skills, tactics, physical fitness, goalkeeper training, psychological and mental aspects of the game as well as how to create successful session plans.
Having the services of a goalkeeping coach was of particular benefit as it is a position that has been identifed by the OFC Technical Department as one in which standards must be raised in both the male and female games.
