In other matches, Tukoko Uni Inter were subdued to a 1-1 draw, Niu Petro Madang Fox beat Besta United 3-0, while substitute Chris Abby’s goal in the dying seconds saw Eastern Stars edge giants Gigira Laitepo Morobe 4-3.
Eastern Stars goalkeeper Richard Lapan stood out to pick up the Telikom PNG man-of-the match award against Gigira Laitepo Morobe in what was arguably the game of the round.
In front of a capacity crowd at Sir Ignatius Kilage Stadium, the visiting Eastern Stars wasted no time in the opening stages scoring five minutes into the game through striker Danny Banaba.
However 17 minutes later, the Morobeans levelled the score with a goal to Anthony Lepani who made a clean break to go one-on-one with goalkeeper Lapan.
The Eastern Stars hit straight back from kick off as Banaba scored his second.
Morobe applied pressure through frontmen Sammy Hiob, Esa Nasa, Anthony Lepani, Pascoe and Eliuda Fugure and were awared for their efforts were rewarded when Fugure hammered the goal into the back of the net from outside the box.
In the second half it was the home team that found the net first to break the deadlock and go ahead 3-2.
But errors crept into the Morobe side and Stars capitalised with two quick goals late in the game through Adrain Komu and Chris Abby to claim victory.
An elated coach Francis Moyap said that his team needed the win more than Morobe.
“They were the better side of the day, but it seems they just let the victory slip through their hands,” he said.
Eastern Stars and Morobe are now equal on 21 points in the competition.
