Rakahanga, an atoll located 1,248 kilometres from the Cook Islands capital of Rarotonga with a population of just 127, played host to the event.
Fifty guests travelled from Manihiki, 44 kilometres from their host, for what proved to be a fun and festive event.
“It was a great tournament with our sister island of Manihiki and all of us playing the beautiful game of football,” says Rakahanga Football president Apolonari Piho.
The tournament got underway with a women’s division that had Rakahanga taking the lead and the victory over Manihiki.
The men’s division saw the hosts prove their skills on the pitch as they overcame their opponents to secure the win.
“The participation and community support was much appreciated adn I would like to thank everyone from Rakahanga and Manihiki who suported this event,” Piho says.
Rakahanga is now looking forward to hosting the its next tournament with Manihiki who hope to turn fortune in their favour next time around.
