Phina from Santo Island plays her football with a local club in town, decided two years ago to be a assistant referee in the woman’s league and has improved a lot.
She has never attend any referee courses but her passion for refereeing is big and during the Wilco Independence Cup last month Port Vila Football Referee committee appointed her to officiate the Premier League matches.
The 20-year-old will be few steps closer to her dreams when she was appointed as a TVL Premier League match official.
The competition due to kicks off next month.
“I want to go as far as it can take me.” Angelo said.
“I have the confident to officiate the male football now and my next goal is to officiate in an OFC competition, and then my biggest dream is to be the first female FIFA assistant referee in Vanuatu.”
Referee Development Officer Nasse Carlo said Phina has a bright future if she continues to dedicate herself to refereeing.
“She’s very talented and very tough and she has the ability to get other young girls involved in football.” Carlo said.
“She’s very confident and athletically minded. She knows the game; she plays the game and I am sure she will achieve her dreams,” concluded Nasse Carlo.
Woman’s Football League in Vila also congratulates Phina.
“On behalf of woman’s football, I would like to thank Phina for her passion for refereeing and I am sure she will officiate in a OFC competition one day,” Said Alcina Charley, Woman’s Football Media Officer.
“She has helped us a lot officiating our matches in the last two years and today she is a top assistant referee officiating men’s football at Port Vila Stadium.”
