Kewal takes over from previous Acting President Anil Sharma, who has been carrying out the role in the abscence of Kewal and President Dr. Muhammed Shams-UD-Dean Sahu Khan.
Fiji FA chief executive officer Bob Kumar announced the move this week.
“I can confirm that Dr Kewal has stepped into the role of acting Fiji FA president,” he said.
“Dr Sahu Khan and Dr Kewal were away overseas and so Anil Sharma acted in the role in their absence. With Dr Kewal now back in the country, it is only fitting that he takes over as he is the senior vice-president.”
Kumar added that Kewal will act in the role until further notice.
The new Acting President takes on the job at an important time for Fijian football.
Major tournament the Vodafone Fiji FACT has just taken place while the national men’s and women’s sides are preparing for the upcoming Pacific Games, to be held in New Caledonia during August and September.
The men’s side has friendly matches lined up against fellow OFC countries Tahiti, Vanuatu and Solomon Islands over the coming weeks as it steps up its preparations for the Games.
