VFF Grassroots coordinator Joel Rarua say the programme went well with all the kids in attendance appearing to enjoy it.
“We had 70 children turn up the festival and I’d like to thank Freshwota School for their support,” Rarua says.
“We have held similar festivals in other Port Vila schools over the past few weeks and the attendance of kids, teachers and volunteers has been outstanding.”
Rarua says the make-up of the group in attendance was 50 boys and 20 girls, and he says it was promising to see all of the children coming together so well.
“The festival brought a different atmosphere and it was exciting for a lot of the kids to have Vanuatu national team players taking part and transferring the basics of football to the kids.”
Bong Kalo and Francois Sakama were joined by former Vanuatu international Tom Manses in delivering different coaching sessions and performing demonstrations over the course of the festival.
“They demonstrated how to do controlled passes, defending, attacking and possession games playing as a team,” Rarua explains.
Another Grassroots Festival is being held in Port Vila on Friday with a different local school getting involved.
