The Besta qualifiers is an annual competition that identifies the top male and female associations to represent Momase in the PNGFA Besta National Cup in Lae in November.
Hosts Madang Football Association were the champions of the men’s Besta Cup Qualifiers after a 3-1 victory against Lahi in the final, but both teams have qualified to represent their region in the main competition.
Lahi retained their title in the women’s qualifiers and will represent Momase in November after defeating Lae in the women’s final.
Chairman of the Local Organising Committee John Marapal was excited to host the qualifying event and said the teams performed very well and enjoyed the spirit of unity through sports.
“We know that soccer plays an important role in reducing social issues in the community but more so it exposes raw talent,” he said.
Marapal concluded the tournament by thanking participants and supporters.
“I am pleased and happy with you all, and with all my sponsors who have come on board and supported soccer.”
Madang represented Momase in the final of the PNGFA Besta Cup in 2015, but were dominated by Manus.
