Nineteen local coaches attended the Soccer Sisters Festival, which was run by OFC Women’s Football Development Officer Nicola Demaine and held at the Football Federation Samoa Headquarters in Upolu to help wrap up the FIFA Women’s Football Coaching Course.
“The course gave the new coaches a taste of coaching youth and grassroots, different coaching styles, running festivals and developing the game for females,” Demaine says.
“The programme is supported by FIFA and is a great way of bringing people together with the common goal of improving women’s football.”
The festival was held as Samoa prepare for the OFC U-20 Women’s Championship, which will be played out over 1-10 October in Tonga.
Having missed last year’s edition of the tournament, Samoa will arrive off the back of a strong showing at the Pacific Games in Papua New Guinea this year, where they finished pool play with two wins and a draw.
Samoa eventually finished fourth, losing to the Cook Islands 2-0 in the bronze medal match.
