Thirty young footballers aged 15-17 years old, headed out to Lycee Jules Garnier in Nouville on Wednesday to trial for entry into the school’s football section.
FCF head of youth development Mathieu Delcroix says the SSSF is an important development programme being offered in New Caledonia.
“The development of the individual is at the centre of this programme, the objective being to accompany the student/player with both their academic and athletic development.”
It was with a mix of pleasure and aprehension that the trials got started with the students carrying out their warm-up and showing off their juggling skills before launching into the serious end of actitivities.
Five-a-side matches were played out under the watchful eye of the coach, who also explained to parents and the potential students alike the objective and function of the trial and the course offered by the school.
Jules Garnier is the first of ten trials which will take place for the SSSF.
At college level, there are schools in Paita, Magenta, Koutio, Kone and Canala as well as College Havila on Lifou, which welcomes students from the Loyalty Islands.
Lycees Jules Garner, Dokamo and Paita also offer the programme.
