From June 18-21 the Federation Tahitienne de Football played host to FIFA referee instructor Lim Kee Chong, of Mauritus, and FIFA fitness instructor Mark Hester – the lead instructors on a FIFA Referee Course.
A group of 28 current and aspiring referees attended the course held at the FTF Technical Headquarters.
Video analysis is fast becoming essential to the development of referees to an international standard, and came under focus during the four-day course alongside a refresher on the Laws of the Game. Both theory and practical sessions were used to convey the message to the attending match officials.
The goal for the Commission Fédérale des Arbitres (CFA), which looks after all things referee-related in Tahiti, was to see the participants improve their game analysis and continue to lift their level.
Something which arose during course was a proposition from the CFA to create a new way of organising referees for Tahiti’s leading football league, Ligue 1 VINI.
The idea is to have referee trios working together for the duration of the season, with the CFA making match appointments and providing feedback to each trio.
The best trio, based on the anaylsis of the CFA, would be rewarded at the end of the season with the Golden Whistle.
