OFC Champions League-bound teams Lae City Dwellers and Hekari United both made winning starts to the new-look competition, which this season has introduced a conference format to reduce travel for teams.
Hekari lead the Southern Conference on goal difference after a 4-2 win over Gigira Laitepo United, and are joined on three points by PS Huawei FC who beat FC POM 3-2, and Rapatona FC who were 2-1 winners over Erema FC.
In the Northern Conference Lae City were comprehensive in their 7-0 rout of Goroka Gosiha FC, while Besta PNG United defeated Madang FC 2-0 and Morobe United FC beat Admiralty 1-0.
The second round of competition takes place this weekend with all Northern Conference matches being played at the Sir Ignatius Kilage Stadium on Saturday.
Southern Conference matches will take place at the Bisini Sports Complex on both Saturday and Sunday.
Lae and Hekari already know who they will face in the 2016 OFC Champions League, with the draw for the competition conducted last week in Auckland, New Zealand.
Lae will face off with Amicale FC, the yet-to-be-determined Solomon Islands club winner and defending champions Auckland City FC in Group A.
