The draw is set to take place on January 15, at the association’s first meeting of 2013, and with the opening round of matches quickly approaching PVFA secretary Bong Shem says a call has already gone out for clubs to get training underway.
The competition is being sponsored by the Port Vila Municipal Council and Lord Mayor Ruben Olul says he is very excited about the upcoming event.
“The council and staff members can’t wait for the tournament to get underway and I am confident that this is a very good competition to start off 2013,” he says.
“We are very thankful for this opportunity to sponsor the biggest sport in Vanuatu and thank the Port Vila Football Association for allowing us to step in and support the development of football in Port Vila.”
The winner of the competition will qualify for this year’s Sister City Cup which is played between teams from Vanuatu and New Caledonia.
In 2012 the Port Vila Young Team, a selection made up of the top U-20 players in the PVFA Premier League, travelled to Nouméa to participate in the three-team tournament in which they emerged victors.
