The 24-year-old currently plays for USV Jena in Germany’s Frauen Bundasliga and has previous experience playing in Australia and Spain.
As the most-capped players in New Zealand history, with 96 appearances for her country at senior level, Erceg brings a wealth of experience to Chicago.
“Abby will provide us with a higher level of professionalism and leadership, which she acquired during her time in Australia, Germany, Spain and as captain of the New Zealand national team,” says Erceg’s new coach Rory Dames.
“Both of these attributes will be invaluable to helping develop our young team.”
The Chicago Red Stars line-up features US Women’s national team members defender Julie Johnson and forward Christen Press as well as Canada internationals goalkeeper Karina LeBlanc, midfielder Adriana Leon and forward Melissa Tancredi.
They’ve had a mixed start to the National Women’s League season recording just three wins from seven matches played.
