With little game time under his belt since the Ligue 2 season got underway, the Caledonian proved his worth to coach Jean Marc Furlan during the side’s fifth encounter of the season.
Estac Troyes were leading 3-0 thanks to first two first half goals from Benjamin Nivet and a third to Corentin Jean in the fifth minute.
Gope-Fenepej’s 86th minutes strike helped to seal the points and ensure his side move clear at the top of the standings, with a two point advantage over Dijon.
He came inot the game in the 39th minute, replacing the injured goalscorer Jean.
Gope-Fenepej was deservedly pleased to have put his name on the scorers sheet.
“I came on and it was my first goal in Ligue 2. I’m very happy and it does a lot for my confidence,” he says.
“I eliminated the first player, then a second and found myself in front of the keeper. I had already planned to do a backheel. It was a beautiful goal.
“I’ve had a lot of messages congratulating me. Mahamadou Ndiaye congratulated me by SMS and that meant a lot.”
Estac Troyes’ next Ligue 2 encounter will be against AJ Auxerre on Monday 15 September.
