As a token of appreciation to parents, registered clubs and young participants Football Federation Samoa combined three development programmes, Fun Football, Development Centres and the Just Play Programme, for a one-off festival on Tuesday evening.
FFS CEO Sarai Bareman said the event was an opportunity to bring all the children together in one fun, safe environment to celebrate the festive season.
“The kids have been working hard all year in the various programmes and we wanted to give them a fun, safe activity to finish the year off and wish them a happy Christmas,” Bareman said.
“We have provided buses for transportation and healthy food and snacks as well as giveaways, prizes and of course, football. It’s a great way to top off a great year.”
Fun Football is a grassroots programme designed by FFS in 2009 to introduce children aged 5-16 years old to football skills such as dribbling, passing, heading and shooting.
Just Play is a football programme designed for children aged 6-12 years old which has been implemented in primary schools and communities throughout the Pacific.
The Development Centres are an FFS technical department programme which provide high-level coaching for talented youth, identified in the National Youth League. It runs twice a week for ten months a year and if for boys and girls in the U-12 and U-15 age groups.
As part of the festival certificates were presented to the club coaches that were part of the FFS Just Play coaching education programme.
The top players from the Development Centres were also rewarded with prizes going to the most valuable player and most improved player.
