Ba’s women’s team has retained the Senior Women’s League title after beating Labasa 1-0 at Fiji FA Academy Grounds in Vatuwaqa.

The women-in-black, after defeating Tailevu Naitasiri 10-0 in their opening match on Friday, just needed a win to clinch back-to-back titles.

Ba’s goal scoring machine Cema Nasau proved the author of the winning goal when she pounced in the 37th minute of play, providing relief for her side after a courageous fight from the Labasa women’s team.

Ba captain Louisa Tamanitoakula thanked her players for the showing spirit in their sucessful retention of the title.

“We came here with a mission which was to retain our title and I am thankful to the Almighty for giving us strength,” Tamanitoakula said.

Labasa coach Saniala Bera was pleased with his team’s performance despite the loss.

“I am happy with performance of my girls and I think Ba was a better team and won,” Bera said.

The former national striker said Ba gave them a good match.

“Ba came out well prepared but nothing to be taken away from my girls as they played their hearts out and did what they could until the final whistle.

“We will come back more prepared this year,” Bera said.

Fiji Football Association vice president Susan Wise congratulated Ba side for winning the back to back title.

“I congratulate Ba for winning their title once again this year and also Labasa side for their great performance,” Wise said.
