Last week, the 3rd Annual Sirubai Beach Soccer Tournament 2020 was held at Kubolia Beach Soccer Stadium in Vella Island from the 1-6 January with an impressive 18 teams taking part.

During the event a new initiative promoting beach soccer awareness was launched by the LOC with the support of the Solomon Islands Football Federation (SIFF), via several different actions:

  • Oral presentation promoting grassroots beach soccer
  • Displaying of national beach soccer shirt to motivate players in their future endeavours
  • Beach Soccer World Cup highlights displayed in public to promote the elite side of the game
  • Donation of beach soccer balls to all participating teams after identifying a lack of balls as a setback to youth development

Mr. Presley Vuala (LOC Chairman), thanked the sports authority for trusting his committee and community to host the one-week tournament. Vuala highlighted that this community initiative is meant to support the surrounding communities and the indirect benefit that each community will attain is the knowledge, skills and know-how to duplicate a similar approach to their own setting.
