Futsal clubs in Lami, Fiji were last month boosted by a three-day Senior Futsal Coaching Course, with 20 coaches taking part in the event at the Fiji Football Association (FFA) Headquarters in Vatuwaqa.

The course was overseen by former Fiji futsal national team player and coach Mira Sahib, who is now an OFC futsal coach educator.

Sahib said offering opportunities for regional coaches to increase their futsal knowledge, and gain new qualifications, was a key part of growing the game in Fiji.

“This is the first time we are conducting a course for the regional club coaches,” Sahib said.

“It was a first step in their coaching pathway and from here these coaches will implement their knowledge in their clubs, including the coaching process and how to plan and conduct training sessions.

“At participation level there are larger numbers of players and it feeds into higher performance levels. So if we have lots of good coaches at the participation level, for sure our national team will benefit.”

Sahib confirmed plans for similar courses to be rolled out across Fiji.
