Viti Water Flow Lautoka FC are the kings of Fiji after beating Nadroga FC 3-0 last week to give themselves an unassailable lead at the top of the Digicel Premier League with a game to spare.

Knowing a win would guarantee them the 2021 title, Lautoka wasted no time and took the lead against Nadroga after just nine minutes thanks to a Sairusi Nalaubu goal.

A further goal from Nalaubu in the seond half and a 90th-minute strike from James Pillay put the result beyond doubt, handing Lautoka their first title since 2018 and sixth overall across their history.

With the season interrupted due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Lautoka maintained focus and lost just twice through the first 12 games.

Lautoka coach Imdad Ali said discipline was the key to his squad’s success this year.

“The boys kept their discipline and worked hard throughout the season and that was the key,” Ali said.

“We knew we could win the title after we saw the commitment and dedication shown from our officials and the players.”

The Fiji Football Association also revealed that Tailevu Naitasiri will be promoted to the Digicel Premier League next year, with the team they will replace in the top flight still to be determined.
