Solomon Island’s Marist FC have placed fourth at the 2016 JF international Futsal Cup after conceding 5-3 to Carlton FC in the third and fourth play-off at Goonellabah Sports & Aquatic Centre, Australia, on Sunday.

Marist FC’s bid for the title ended after losing 4-1 in their semi-final match against the undefeated tournament winners Fitzroy FC. The Solomon side placed second in the group stage with equal points to first place Carlton FC but were dominated by the Victorian side in their two clashes.

Kossa/Redlands were also at the tournament, showcasing the talent in the Solomon Islands national team with Kurukuru players James Egeta and Moffat Sikwa’ae taking the court. The side showed dominance in the group stage, with a 0-0 draw against Fitzroy FC and a 4-4 draw against South Brisbane FC, but missed out on semi-finals by goal difference.

The JF International Cup is an elite futsal competition played over three days featuring ten men’s teams from Solomon Islands, New South Wales, Queensland and Victoria. The tournament was delivered and administered by Just Futsal NSW and was played on 16-18 December.
