The New Caledonia futsal team lost both their matches against Malaysia going down 5-0 and 6-1 in the two-match series in Kuala Lumpur this week.

New Caledonia are preparing to host the OFC Futsal Nations Cup 2019 at the end of the month, with the trip to Malaysia part of their preparations as they look to make a strong stand in the competition on home soil.

While the opening match didn’t see the visitors find the back of the net, Malaysia coach Chiew Chun Yong still wasn’t happy with his side’s comprehensive victory.

“In the first game we showcased a less satisfying performance and many weaknesses were exposed,” he said.

For the second encounter New Caledonia were able to capitalise on some of those weaknesses allowing Christopher Cawa to open the scoring in the 8th minute.

“In the second game in the first round the players’ focus level was not good enough, they didn’t follow instructions or the tactics,” Malaysia’s Chiew Chun Yong said.

“But in the second half their performance got better and that’s why we scored more.”

New Caledonia will open their OFC Futsal Nations Cup campaign on Monday 28 October against Vanuatu.
