Oceania football competitions wrap – Oct 15

Leading teams drop points in the Solomon Islands, while Veitongo enjoys a big weekend in both the men’s and women’s grades in Tonga. Here’s our wrap of last weekend’s competition action from around the region. 

Round 16 arrived in the Telekom S-League in the Solomon Islands, with Saturday seeing a 1-1 draw between competition leaders Central Coast and Honiara City.

A late Kevin Fika goal earned Waneagu United FC a 1-1 draw with Laugu United FC, while Southern United FC were too strong for Kula FC in a 3-0 victory.

Two goals from Gagame Feni inside the final 20 minutes lifted Kossa FC to a 3-1 win against Vfresh FC Isabel United. Marist FC and Real Kakamora FC couldn’t be split in a 0-0 stalemate.

Boni Pride was the hero for Henderson Eels FC, scoring on 69 minutes to get earn a 1-0 win on the road to second-placed Solomon Warriors FC.

In Tonga’s TFA Major League Folaha edged past Lotoha’apai 3-2 while Veitongo ran riot in a 10-0 win over Lavengatonga.

The premier women’s grade saw wins for Nukuhetulu (2-0) and Fahefa (1-0) over Havelu and Navutoka respectively, while Veitongo won 5-0 against Toa Girls.

Papua New Guinea’s Kumul Petroleum National Soccer League remains suspended indefinitely due to the COVID-19 pandemic, while Fiji’s Digicel Premier League is set to return on October 24.
