Samoa has turned in a much-improved performance in a 7-0 defeat by China in their second match at the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Morocco.
Juan Chan Urrea’s side had suffered a 17-0 loss to women’s football powerhouse the USA in their opening Group E match but competed valiantly against the Chinese.
After conceding an early 6th minute penalty, the Samoans defended well before Xu Yue scored the first of her two goals in the 25th minute. She added her second four minutes later and Wandi Cheng made it 4-0 before the break.
Cheng scored her second from the penalty spot 12 minutes into the second half before Liu Yuxi added a 6th goal in the 60th minute. The Chinese saved their best for last as Yang Lan fired a scintillating left footed effort into the corner of the net 15 minutes from time to complete the scoring.
Samoa wrap up their campaign against Kenya on Monday.
