All-weather turfs in Dunedin

The project

Construction of two all-weather turf pitches in Dunedin to meet the football demand and address issues caused by inclement weather. New Zealand Football initiated the funding with US$300,000 of FIFA Forward funds.

With this, New Zealand Football and Football South were able to attract and secure other contributors to the US$2.8 million project.

The benefits

Since completion, there has been increased usage in a rugby-dominated region with benefits accruing to 65 football clubs and players at all levels.

In recognition of raising the required funds, Football South have a dedicated football pitch and have reached an agreement with the local council for guaranteed football usage hours. Additionally, maintenance costs are borne by the council.
