The group will come together for the first of two camps at the PNGFA Academy in Lae, Papua New Guinea on 27 October, before being cut down to a final 20 who will attend the tournament in the Cook Islands from 9-23 January.
PNGFA women’s development officer, Frederica Sakette, says the coaching staff already have a good knowledge of several players included in the squad.
“The majority of the squad is made of the 2014 Summer Youth Olympic Games team which we took to China last year, so already we have some idea of what those players can do,” she says.
“Other than that the preparations are going as planned and we are looking forward to the camps.
“I am happy with the 41 girls selected, and while we don’t have a strong idea of what the final 20 will look like yet, after the first camp we expect to have some players identified.”
Papua New Guinea have been drawn in Pool B for the tournament, alongside Fiji, Vanuatu and host nation the Cook Islands.
The top two teams from each group will progress to the semi-finals, with the eventual winner securing direct qualification to the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup Jordan 2016.
