Temata will join his national U-17 teammate Pekay Edwards at the school after being award a Cook Islands Football Scholarship earlier this month.
CIFA General Secretary Mii Piri congratulated the youngster on his award and encouraged him to aim for the top in 2014.
“An opportunity like this comes only once in a lifetime and for sure Wiremu will need to work hard at both football trainings and his studies,” she says.
“We wish good luck to Wiremu, and Pekay, both of whom we are proud to send to New Zealand with this scholarship.”
From the village of Titikaveka, Temata grew up playing for the local club after getting his start in the Grassroots programme.
He was accepted into the CIFA U-16 Academy programme, regularly training with the team in 2012 as they built-up to the OFC U-17 Preliminary which was held in January 2013.
After helping the Cook Islands win through to the OFC U-17 Championship Temata travelled with the squad to Vanuatu in April 2013 where they took on the region’s top youth teams to mixed results.
Alongside his exploits for the national team, the 17-year-old also captained the Titikaveka U-17 side in 2013, while also maintaining his education to a standard high enough to the title of Titikaveka College Dux.
Temata says he’s aware that he has chosen a difficult path, especially for a Cook Islander, but will be doing his utmost in class and on the pitch in order to make his dream of professional football, a reality.
