With the stakes high, as the winner qualifies for the FIFA U-20 World Cup New Zealand 2015, Rufer has selected a strong side which he believes will do the business.
“It’s an exciting time for us as we build up towards the tournament in Fiji as the winner will represent Oceania at the U-20 World Cup next year in New Zealand,” Rufer says.
The side are detouring via New Zealand on their way to Fiji for the competition, which gets underway on 23 May, with two matches against the New Zealand U-20 squad lined up during their 11-day stay.
Rufer describes his side as being youthful with a blend of experience in the mix, with a large number of the group having participated in the OFC U-17 Championship in Vanuatu last year.
Nine of the squad are members of the Besta PNG United FC team, showcasing the ongoing process of the development programme at the PNGFA Academy in Lae.
