The three goals take the 21-year-old’s tally to six goals in three matches for his new side following his transfer from Premier League club West Bromwich Albion, making him one of the most prolific goal scorers of the year.
Wood, who played 19 games on loan with Bristol City last season, opened the scoring in the 11th minute after firing home a precision pass from Ben Marshall.
He capitalised on an error from Bristol keeper Dean Gerken to tap the ball in from close range for his second just seven minutes later.
The All White drilled the ball through the defence from the edge of the box to seal his hat-trick just before half-time.
Returning from the break Wood turned provider, laying the ball into the path of midfielder Matty James who found the back of Gerken’s net with a shot from 18 yards out.
Leicester manager Nigel Pearson was full of praise for his new signing following the 4-0 victory.
“Chris Wood has taken his chances for us and scored some early goals, which makes a big difference. He is a very focused young player who has fitted in straight away and gives us a height and physical presence up front, which perhaps we lacked,” Pearson says.
“It is not easy to sign quality players in January and I am delighted to have secured him early in the window.”
The win takes Leicester to third on the Championship table with 47 points alongside Crystal Palace and Middlesbrough, though sitting ahead with a considerable goal difference.
Wood and his teammates are set to face Middlesbrough next weekend, a side who will be coming out strong following their 2-1 loss to Watford on the weekend.
“It’s going to be a very tough game next week and with them losing this week they’re going to come out fighting,” Wood says.
“We just have to make sure that we prepare right during the week and be ready for that game.”
